Minimal Supplies, WOW Results Easy Heat Embossed Card with Wildflowers: Yippee for Yana

Hi friends! Please join me in welcoming back the oh-so-talented and amazing Yana Smakula! (Please note: our dear friend Yana is Ukrainian. To show support to our brothers and sisters in Ukraine, please see Yana’s post HERE.)

Hello, crafters, this is Yana Smakula for Simon Says Stamp! Welcome back for another Yippee For Yana video!  And today we’re going for something bold, beautiful, and refreshingly simple. If you’ve ever wondered how to make an eye-catching card using just a handful of supplies, this project is for you!

I’m featuring the brand new Wildflower Cuttings stamp set from Simon Says Stamp’s latest release. And don’t worry, if you don’t have this exact set, I bet you have something similar in your stash that will work just as well!

Step-by-Step Instructions:

1. Heat Emboss the Florals
Start by treating your Honey cardstock with an anti-static powder tool. Stamp the wildflower image using clear embossing ink, then cover with white embossing powder and heat set. You can replicate this technique using other embossing colors like gold, silver, or even clear, depending on your cardstock choice.

2. Create a Tone-on-Tone Background
I love using the same color cardstock for both the stamping and the card base to create a soft tone-on-tone effect. For an A2-sized card, emboss the image four times to fill the background.

Tip: If your cardstock warps from heat embossing (mine always does!), consider die cutting the images instead of stamping directly on the background.

3. Add Stability + Dimension
For sturdier florals, die-cut a second layer from plain cardstock and adhere it to the back of each embossed piece. Then add foam adhesive squares for dimension and build your background using the die cuts.

4. Stamp the Sentiment
Stamp a sentiment in the bottom right corner of the panel using VersaFine Onyx Black Ink. I used “Thinking of you today and always” from the set, but it also includes other heartfelt options.

5. Fill the Background
Adhere your wildflower die cuts to the card panel, trimming excess and using the leftovers to fill any gaps. This adds fullness and visual balance without needing more supplies.

6. Embellish & Finish
Add small white dots using a Gelly Roll pen around your florals; this adds subtle texture and brightness. Then embellish with Mandarin Positively Dazzling Gems. I used small ones to mimic tiny flowers or berries, and I love how the red pops against the honey yellow!

This card is proof that you don’t need a ton of supplies to create something beautiful. With just a few basics: cardstock, a stamp set, embossing powder, and some simple embellishments, you can build a design that’s elegant and impactful.

Grab the Wildflower Cuttings stamp set or dig through your stash to find something similar and give this a try. I’d love to see what you create!

Thanks for stopping by! -Yana
