Messy Watercolor Technique

Hello friends! Today I am sharing my watercolor card featuring Simon supplies. I tied together rainbow colors with “believe in your dreams” sentiment and a carousel horse for a whimsical story. Doesn’t this card remind you of childhood dreams? I hope it does spark something inside of you!

Messy Watercolor Technique

To make this card. I first laid the gorgeous SSS Circular Lace Stencil on a piece of watercolor paper. Then, I ink blended on it with rainbow colors of distress inks as base (listed below). After that, I watercolored on it using darker shades of distress inks and added ink splatters. When everything is dried, I die cut the panel using SSS Basic Rectangles Die.

For the focal point of the card, I die cut more paper using the SSS Carousel Horse Die for five times and glued them together. I used Wink of Stella pen to add a lot of sparkle to the top layer. For the sentiment, I stamped the “believe” word from the SSS Believe Stamp Set using Versafine Onyx Black Pigment Ink. I then clear embossed it and die cut out using the SSS Believe Die Set. For the rest of the sentiment, I white heat embossed on black card stock.
To finish, I mounted everything in place using foam tape and Scor-Tape onto cardstock.
That’s it for today. Thank you so much for stopping by! Happy crafting!! :)

  1. This year I am really seeing a number of stencils being used. Something I have not used in years and years. And the old ones were so very basic. A cloud. A crescent moon. The new ones are so beautiful. Must give them a try.

  2. Such a fun card! Love that you can get a little messy with your colors and not worry about it. Thanks for sharing.❤️

  3. Love the loose, messy watercolor – something the slightly-OCD me has a hard time doing! But I’m going to try… :-)
