Hi there! I’m thrilled to be back as a guest on the Simon Says Stamp blog. Today I’ve got a card to share using some Hero Arts and Simon Says Stamp goodies.

I’ve a got a new little niece that should be arriving any day now, so I decided to make a card to have on hand when the big day arrives. My card is inspired by this amazing card by Kristina Werner. I love the ink “smooshing” technique with the simple white embossing over the top. (Thanks for the inspiration, Kristina!)

The animal images in the Simon Says Stamp Baby Party Animals stamp set are absolutely adorable and perfect for baby cards. And the hand drawn style coordinates perfectly with the messages in the Hero Arts Little One stamp set.

When creating a background like this, be sure choose inks colors that blend well. The pinks and oranges I used work great together and create new colors when they overlap. Also, I like to include a very light shade of ink, like Spun Sugar Distress Ink, to use around edges and create a faded out look.

As a final touch I die cut some Mini Hearts straight from the watercolored piece and popped the panel up on a white card base. I also added some Glossy Accents over the bunny to make her stand out a little bit more.

Thanks for stopping by today!

  1. What a sweet little card! I love the ink smooshing technique too, easy yet always gives a big impact!

  2. I’m waiting to find out if my niece is having a boy or girl. This would look good in blues and greens too.

  3. Love the color combination. It’s amazing what colors will blend – we never think to try odd (what we think are odd) combos.
thanks for sharing. Congratulations on the new niece.

  4. Not tried this technique yet but today just might be the day. I love the looks of it. Great job…thanks for sharing.

  5. I love, love, LOVE this card!! I just recently attempted ink smooshing and am addicted!! You have absolutely inspired me to make some baby cards like this, so thanks!!!! ;)

  6. I haven’t tried the cool technique of smooshing. Thanks for reminding me to do so. Your card is so sweet and fun.

  7. The card is adorable and the ink smooshing is a great technique! I saw Kristina’s video and I have been planning to try the technique. Love a watercolor look background and this seems to create a perfect one.

  8. I smoosh, you smoosh, we all smoosh! :b Love the colors you chose for your card…great idea!! Can’t wait to see what other combos will look good together! TFS =)
