Happy World Cardmaking Day!!!

Hi readers!! Happy Saturday to you and HAPPY WORLD CARDMAKING DAY!

Hi Debby here and I’m delighted to be joining you on World Card Making Day for a Creative Uses post! I get a little thrill when I run my eye over the latest stamps and dies to look for a different spin; wondering which set will trigger an ‘a-ha’ moment! As the deliciousness of the STAMPtember release was laid out in front of me, my eye was caught by the pumpkins from the Thanksgiving Table set and how similar to hot air balloons they were when turned upside down. I stamped the two sizes of pumpkin in Memento Tuxedo Black and then coloured them (in any colour other than orange LOL) and cut them out with their matching dies from the Thanksgiving Feast set.

All was looking good apart from the stem of the pumpkins sticking down, I fixed this by stamping and die cutting the toppers from the Ornaments set. The toppers are coloured to match the balloons and then trimmed along the top to remove the ring area. These were then glued to the pumpkin stems and any overhang trimmed away. The balloons were then mounted over elements from the Cloud Bank die onto a patterned paper panel. The sentiment from the Road Trip set is stamped in Black onto a white banner again from the Thanksgiving Table set :D

While the Holiday Ornaments die set was on my table I thought that one of the ornament shapes was suitable for turning into a light bulb. I cut the die from some scratch paper and then used the negative space to blend in Squeezed Lemonade, Mustard Seed and Black Soot Distress Inks onto a white panel of card. The perfect sentiment is from Objects of Love and the die cut heart is from the Large Holiday Shapes set cut from Lipstick Red card and then coated liberally in Xmas Red Stickles.

There’s a little Lawn Fawn twine tied around the panel and then it is mounted onto a white card base with Wendy Vecchi white embossing paste swiped through the great Zig Zag Dots stencil. I love this stencil for adding just the right amount of subtle detail :D

I hope you get the chance today to make a card for World Card Making Day!

  1. Both of these are gorgeous and a fun use of the stamps(and so clever, too)! Happy World Card Making Day! Isn’t it amazing? If everyone in the world could get along and respect one another the way card maker’s do, it would be a much better place.

  2. What a clever use of dies that were meant for something else. I just love the creativity of the artist.

  3. Sooooo clever. My goodness, how do you see something totally different than what the intention is. Simply brilliant, that’s what you are.

  4. Happy WCMD to everyone
and having lots of fun on
    all the blogs! Wonderful
    cards, love the light bulb
    one.

  5. Such clever ideas! Love the triple layering on your ‘adventure’ card, especially with the die cut outline images. Well done, it’s ingenious!

  6. Ahh – thinking outside the ‘stamp’ – great ideas for using stamps in unusual ways ! Thanks for sharing ! I follow the blog via e-mail .

  7. Debby is such a design master. I mean just look at these cards. Love the triangle background and the way she cleverly re-purposed the pumpkin and ornament topper stamps to create balloons. The zig zag dots stencil done in embossing paste adds such great texture behind the simple image. Always a joy to see her cards!

  8. Oh, I really like the way you get maximum use out of the stamps. Love the upside down pumpkins and the lightbulb.
