Finding My Happy • July Art Journal with Shari

Happy Friday everyone! I’m back with my Art Journal feature for July!

Many of you have asked how I make my journals… it’s complicated… BUT!… I’ve come up with a simple solution to share with you. I’ve decided to start a new one; this time using the back to back method using white cardstock.  This method allows me to work on each spread separately which means a clean journal plus it’s open to more techniques, sewing, fun edges and more.

Finding My Happy

My first spread features a short right side.  With an edge like this, the next page will have a short left side. I’ve put together a video for you explaining how to start your own and how it works.

I hope you will follow along with me and start your own new journal. At the end of this series, I’ll show you fun ways to add a cover.

Thanks for joining me today…Enjoy!

Supplies

  1. Thanks Shari for one awesome project and allowing me to follow you on the journey. This should be so much fun and something I’ve always wanted to try. I finally purchased my dylusion sprays and a moleskin sketch book. Now looking at your pages that you cut then will bind later might be a better option for me. Looking forward to the next page.

  2. The structure of the journal is pure genius, it solves so many problems…and, if this is your first page, I can’t wait to see what you come up with next. Lovely.

  3. I’ve been wanting to create a journal for a while and couldn’t decide what to use. I think this is really the best idea. Thanks for sharing and will you continue to show us more?

    1. Hi Barbara! Yes, I will continue to add to this journal for the rest of the year. I can’t wait to do more pages!!! Hope you will follow along!

      Shari

  4. This is certainly your lovely way Shari – so light and lovely with a great colour combo. I had thought of doing this too …. only making the book after one had finished the pages. So much easier.

  5. Great video! I will have to try the transfer technique! Love your page. :) I am looking forward to seeing the process of it all put together. Thank you for sharing.

Love the new blog Simon Says Stamp (anything clean with no blinkies is totally my style!).

  6. What a treat to come home from work today and see your new journal page, Shari! LOVE IT!!! Such a cool technique with the book page and tag, and I love how you threw down those sequins and just glued ’em where they landed! Can’t WAIT for more! :)

  7. Shari,
I love all your journal videos. They are fabulous with great ideas. Please let us know how you are going to bind the pages of your page by page journal. Thanks a lot.

  8. The back to back binding is a technique I have used often for other mini books. To use it as you create an art journal is genius. It gives the novice art journaller, like me, a great starting point without worrying about “wrecking” it.

  9. I look forward to your monthly art journal videos. I just started my journal and love your inspiring designs.

  10. I look forward to your monthly art journal pages, even though I don’t do art journals myself. You always have great techniques to share. I’m looking forward to the next pages and seeing how you bind the finished project. Thanks for sharing your talent with us.

  11. Great video. I have thought about journaling but I always worried about mistakes ruining an entry. Your page by page method is a great idea. Thanks so much.

  12. I love this idea of creating an art journal. I am definitely gong to try it! I kept looking at journals in the store but never found one I liked but I think this is perfect, especially since it will be my first adventure in creating an art journal. I am so impressed with you pages. It’s great you are sharing them and I look forward to see your creation each month.

  13. I look forward to your journal video each month, Shari and I’m always amazed at what you create. You use a variety of adhesives; can you explain why you use them? That could be a whole blog post!
