DIY Party and Play Crowns!

Happy Friday everyone!!! Oh… and Happy April Fools day!!!  It’s Shari here with a fun DIY project for you.

I’ve been thinking of what I could make for Melody to use for play time and dress up. She’s at that age where tea parties are right around the corner. So, I decided on Cloth and Felt crowns! These were really fun to make and are quite durable for a toddler! I found fabric that coordinated together so I could mix and match pieces together.

Here’s my sweet Melody wearing one of them, the size is perfect for a toddler.

I made four in all for this tutorial. These are girl themed but can easily be made for boys with a change of fabric and a velcro closure at the back instead of a bow.

Things you’ll need:
Crown Template (download HERE) (Sized for toddler 18-24 months)
Fabric
Interfacing (medium weight)
Felt
Ribbons and trimmings
Felt/Fabric Glue

Hot glue gun
Sewing supplies
Wood Dowel for wand
Buttons
Iron
Cotton Balls or stuffing

I did use my sewing machine to stitch the top points and sides of the crown so they hold well, no special skills, just straight stitching. Felt glue was used for the trimmings.

The felt inside make the crown really soft on the skin and adds thickness so it stands on it’s own.

Finding fun trimmings was one of the best parts. Each one has it’a own personality.

Oversized pearl buttons add a nice finishing touch!

And no princess should ever be without her wand! This was a hit with Melody, the soft felt star is stuffed with cotton which makes for safe play. For older kids, bling could be added by using gems and sequins.

I’ve put together a video showing you how to make these. You can watch it below or on our YouTube channel.
