Hey everyone, Katie here! I’m thrilled to be on the SSS blog and today I’m sharing a DIY for making your own recycled bottle cap magnets! You can customize these in so many ways to make them fit your style- Use your favorite stamps, inks, watercolors, etc or skip the stamps and just use patterned paper. It’s up to you.
  1. Choose your bottle caps! I used 3 red and 3 silver, but since they’re upside down the colors aren’t that important. You want to make sure they’re not to bent. Cut out 1” circles from cardstock.
  2. Use stamps and ink to stamp designs onto your 1” circles. I used the Lots of Stars stamps and both red and blue inks. I love the different sizes of stars.
  3. Use a quick drying glue to adhere your circles down into your bottle caps. Let that dry.
  4. Fill your bottle cap up with either Diamond Glaze or, if you’re adventurous, try filling it with a clear drying resin! You can also add a bit more embellishment by adding glitter or sequins into the glaze. Not too many of course, because you don’t want to hide your stamped designs. Let the glaze cure.
  5. Use 1” self adhesive circle magnets, adhere them to the backs of your bottle caps and you’ve now got a handful of custom magnets!

Since it’s Summer and the 4th of July is coming up, I used the star stamps and the sequins to go with a patriotic/celebration theme for my stamps. nothing says “celebrate!” more than stars and sequins, right?

  1. Thank you Katie for sharing today. The bottle cap magnets are so cute and would look better on the refrigerator instead of those that people give away in some of the stores for promotions.
Are you the one who is going to bring back those bottle caps? yea! Thanks for the inspiration.

  2. Cute — there used to be a day when all soda pop came with bottle caps such as these………..sigh…………but when you can make cute embellished ones today with store bought plain, it’s all good!

  3. I’ve made necklaces out of the bottle caps, but never magnets. a great idea that I’m going to try.
    thanks for sharing.

  4. These are so adorable. It would be great to use them as checkers. I would attach some magnetic sheets to a thick chipboard and then cover the magnetic sheets with a check pattern using store bought paper or create your own. Now you can use the caps as checkers, great for the kids, big or small!

  5. Thanks Katie what a cute idea you can even do this with the kiddos now that it is Summer break and we are always looking for fun and easy projects tfs

  6. The stamped bottle caps is such a simple but yet a great idea. I am defintely going to try this idea.

  7. Great Idea! I have some bottle caps in my stash somewhere that I could use for this – thanks! I follow the blog by email.
