Distress Oxide Ink Watercoloring
Hello, all! Kristina here. Today I have three fun ways to use water with Distress Oxide Ink watercoloring. Distress Oxide inks react with water beautifully, so I thought I’d experiment with different ways to add water textures to watercolor backgrounds. :)
These cards are actually super simple! I used Strathmore watercolor paper for all three backgrounds.
For the first card, I controlled the water added to the background by painting on small hearts with clean water and then picking up the color with a paper towel. This leaves a “bleaching” effect. To finished the card, I added a greeting from the Handwritten Love stamp set and adhered small hearts from the Mini Hearts die set.
For my second card, I used only two colors of Distress Ink (Mermaid Lagoon and a small bit of Chipped Sapphire) to create a monochromatic look. I sized the watercolor area to go behind the Sweet Tulip die cut. After it was painted and dry, I sprayed water into the palm of my hand and then flicked the water onto my painting. Just like before, the water reacts with the Distress Oxide ink and I’m left with organic water droplet shapes when picking the water up with a paper towel.
My third card is super colorful! I created a more rainbow background by changing the colors as I painted (see the exact colors I used listed below in the supplies). To add a water texture after my painting was dry, I flicked water onto the background from a watercolor brush. Like before, I was able to lift up color by pressing a paper towel onto the watercolor paper.
To finished this card, I used the Stained Glass Love stamp set and white heat embossing powder.
Those are my cards for today! Thanks so much for stopping by! I hope you trying out some watercolor backgrounds with Distress Oxide inks. :)
