Good morning! This is Jennifer Rzasa, and today I’m sharing a card using Altenew stamps.  To start, I created an A2 sized side-folding card out of SSS black cardstock.  To prevent any shine along the fold, I creased it with my Teflon Bone Folder.  Next, I used a piece of Neenah Solar White cardstock, cut just smaller than the front of the card, and embossed the woodgrain from Altenew’s Wood Pallet Background in white.  Since we will be watercoloring, you could also use watercolor paper.  The embossing acts as a resist, so the design shows through once watercolored!  I painted a free-form “blob” of color using my Cotman watercolors in shades of fuchsia, blue, and red.  The watercolor panel was then mounted to the card with foam tape.

I stamped my sentiment, from Altenew’s Birthday Greetings, onto white cardstock and die cut it with Circle Stax 1.  I also die cut a black and white striped patterned paper from Teresa Collins, and layered that on top of the first circle for added interest and contrast.  The circle was mounted to the card with foam tape.

To complete the card, I embossed “to a dear friend” (also from Birthday Greetings) onto a strip SSS black cardstock, and cut a notch in the end to form a banner.  For even more dimension, this strip was adhered with foam tape as well. Thanks so much for stopping by and checking out my card, and a big thanks to Simon Says Stamp for inviting me over to their blog today!

Blog Candy Alert!! Follow our blog via email and comment on this post for a chance to win a special blog candy!

  1. Love the wood grain embossing with the watercolor, such a great textured look, beautiful card. I think with different colors it would be great for masculine birthday as well, thanks!

  2. This card is refreshing. It would suit male or female. If the sentiment “dear friend” was changed, it would be a nice card to give at the office or to a casual acquaintance.

  3. So simple and great looking. I like the spot of color on the circle, have to remember that one. I already follow by email.

  4. I love the effect of the “dribbles” on the colour spot that coes from the embossing. Very cool! Makes me think of alternative colours for guy cards… Thanks for the inspiration!

  5. Love the complexity within the simplicity if this card. Adorable stamps & all the elements were cohesive!

  6. Love the streaky look that the embossed wood grain gives to the watercoloured background. Such lovely balance to the sentiment on this card. Love it, Jennifer!

  7. I love the wood grain embossing with the watercolor. I love this Altenew stamp set also…I just love everything on this card!
