Art Journaling with Shari Carroll
Welcome everyone!! It’s Shari here with an art journaling inspiration for you. Actually, I’ve figured out a relief technique that can be used in not just your art journaling but also your mixed media projects.
Relief is a raised area in art, mainly seen in sculptures and carvings. On this page, I’ve used paper and dies to get that look along with a Dina Wakley Glazing Medium. Glazing Medium extends the drying time of paint so you can add some and have time to wipe some away.
The dark Umber paint I’ve used stays in the recessed areas of the leaves. Cool, isn’t it? You may notice some wrinkles and distressed looking areas of the Collage Frame, that was achieved by covering the frame with tissue wrapping paper first and creating intentional ridges, creases, and imperfections.
I love to experiment in my journal before committing techniques onto a canvas or time-consuming project. I can’t wait to try this with other colors of paint and dies.

Gorgeous texture and the muted colours are just beautiful. Hugz
Awesome! It’s fun to watch your creative process (I think I’ve said this before and it’s still true) for the great ideas and techniques that can be used for journaling and card making. The best technique (for me) is the use of the T-square ruler to line it up straight because I would inevitably do all the work and get it crooked! Lol! Thanks Shari!
Just beautiful! I love how the Glaze Medium looks in all the crevices of your project!
Love the monochromatic palette on this beauty.
Always love to watch you create.
