Alcohol Pearl Inks & the May 2019 Card Kit

Hello, all! Kristina here with some inspiration from the May 2019 Card Kit! The kit it packed with fun Tim Holtz Alcohol Pearl Inks, so that’s what I decided to play with today.

Using the Yupo paper included in the kit, I created backgrounds using the pink and blue inks, plus the Alcohol Blending Solution. These backgrounds were so fun to make!

At one point, I smooshed my background onto the surface of my Easy Clean Mat and then picked up the ink on the surface with a second piece of Yupo paper. This applied a more diluted version of the inks and I was able to get paler, more muted colors than the original background. I’ll have to remember this technique in the future when I want softer colors!

I but the large sheets of Yupo paper in half and created two cards. For the first card, I used Alcohol Lift Ink to stamp the floral images from the card kit stamp set, Delicate Flowers (also available for purchase outside of the kit). I stamped them multiple times and wiped away the Lift Ink each time in order to reveal a “ghost like” stamping effect.

I finished that card off with a greeting from the stamp set white heat embossed on back card stock.

For my second card, I wanted to add the flowers from the Delicate Flowers stamp set, but this time I wanted the flowers popped up off the surface. So I stamped them and colored them with Copic markers.

The stamp set doesn’t have coordinating dies currently (if you want them, let Simon know in the comments!), so I hand cut the flowers out. I finished the card by adhering a white heat embossed sentiment to the bottom corner and then used foam tape to adhere the flowers.

Thanks for stopping by today! You can pick up the May 2019 Card Kit here, or subscribe to receive this kit and future kits!

  6. Kristina, your cards were so beautiful. I bought that kit that had the alcohol inks and the lifting pad and have yet to use them. I think you just inspired me to do so. Thank you.

  7. Thank you for sharing more about alcohol inks. You are right about how much fun they are and addictive, too! I love that first technique using lots of blending solution and have had best results with that! I love the look of the smooshing technique and the more subtle backgrounds that can be created and will definitely try that. Both cards are so beautiful and I think maybe I should play with alcohol inks today. I recently ordered some pearl alcohol inks after watching a Shari Carroll video. LOL! You and Shari get credit for some of the products I own. Just saying!

  8. Beautiful backgrounds and finished cards. I love this stamp set—did you design it? I wish the kit was in the budget this month: great stamp set and gorgeous patterned paper.

  9. Gorgeous backgrounds for the beautiful flowers. My kit is on order, can’t wait to receive it. Would LOVE to have the matching dies for the Flower set.

  10. Great cards and video. I recently got a pad of the Lift Ink but haven’t used it yet. Now I see it’s potential! WOW do I like the look…. Happy Easter.

  11. I just wish I had my kit in hand when I start seeing these I-can’t-wait-to-do-this posts. And YES YES YES!!! Always want die cuts to go with!

  12. I love how striking and colorful these are. I had been eyeing this kit and when I saw your two cards, it sent me right to the purchase lane. Lol. Can’t wait to try it out!

  13. These are gorgeous cards – am waiting for my kit to come! Can’t wait to play with it. Yes, we really need dies for these stamps!!!

  14. I enjoyed watching you color. The alcohol backgrounds are gorgeous and the cards are wonderful.

  15. Beautiful, stunning! I’ve been experimenting with Tom Holts spray distress inks. These pearly inks are wonderful! I can’t wait to try them!
