Adhesives: A Review with Shari Carroll
Hello everyone!! It’s Shari Carroll here to give you some helpful information about adhesives. I’m sure it’s super challenging to know what glues or tapes work best for cards and projects. I hope to give you some tips on which ones you’ll need for the right job!
Dry Adhesives Dry adhesives don’t require a drying time and most of them are permanent. They are perfect for sticking paper to paper as they don’t contain water so there is no warping to your paper.
Tape and Tape Runners
Kokuyo Dot Liner, Kokuyo Dot Liner refills, These are my most used adhesives, it is long lasting with 36m or dot tape. Plus Vellum Glue Tape, A great tape runner for tacking down vellum.
Be Creative Tape 9.5 mm Score Pal 1/4″ Crafting Tape, These tapes are super handy for adhering paper to paper and to add Fun Foam to a panel for dimension.
Adding dimension with Foam Dots and Foam Tape
If you like adding dimension to your cards, I have a few types that I like to work with. I lift everything up, it just looks better to me!
3M Foam Tape Roll: Cut the lengths needed for projects, this tape is great for creating shaker cards and lifting larger panels.
Foam Squares 1cm, Foam Squares .05cm: These are quick and easy to apply for smaller pieces.
Glue Sticks I like glue sticks for a few reasons. I use them for collaging papers together. They are dryer than fluid glues so there is less warping. I also like to use them for applying foil to my projects.
Ranger Mini Collage Glue Stick: Small size great for small areas.
Tonic Funky Glue Stick: This starts out purple and dries clear. It’s easy to see where you’ve applied your glue.
Glue Pens Glue pens are very handy to for glue down lightweight items. They are fluid but are used in small amounts. I use these for adhering die cuts and chipboards. These are also great for kids!
Zig 2 Way Glue Pen: This is a ball point pen tip that is great for applying glue to very detailed piece such as die cut words.
Tonic Medium Nuvo Glue Pen: This is a soft chisel tip pen that delivers glue as you draw.
Tonic Large Nuvo Glue Pen: Also a chisel tip but larger for bigger areas.
Fluid and Liquid Glues I use fluid and liquid glues for basic gluing and when I want to adhere embellishments. I consider glues for heavier items and a permanent hold.
Simon Craft Tacky Glue: This is a great all purpose glue. Use it for your sequins, beads, metal pieces and more. It has a fine tip point which can be trimmed down to suit your needs. The finish is between matte and glossy
Funky Glue Pen: This is a white craft glue which also has a fine tip for dispensing the glue. This had a finish between matte and glossy.
Tonic Deluxe Nuvo Glue: This is also a white glue with a fine detail applicator tip and dries to a clear finish.
Multi Matte Medium: This is a strong hold acrylic adhesive that dries to a nice matte finish. This can be used for image transfers and mixed medium projects.
Glossy Accents: A strong hold with a shiny glossy finish. You can use this to create a shine on your projects.
I have filmed a video showing some of these items. You can view it below or on our YouTube Channel HERE.

Thanks for sharing this insight on adhesives. It’s always good to know what works best for different types of projects from people who craft often.
Thanks for the great product tour!! I am excited to try out your new tacky glue, looks perfect!!
Thanks for this info! :)
Scor-tape is my go-to for most projects (my elder daughter keeps running off with my tape runners! Lol). I’ve yet to find the perfect liquid adhesive so I’ll have to try Simon’s, thanks!
There are so many different adhesives with so many different uses. The little summary is helpful – I never thought I would have so many different ones myself, until I started with paper crafting and mixed media!
Thanks for the info. I really like these types of guides.
thanks for sharing this!
Great tutorial. I see a couple of items that would sure make my crafting a lot easier!

Thanks for the product list. I didn’t know there was a vellum tap, I need to get some of that.

Awesome information on adhesive, Thanks for sharing dear!
That is great info about the collage glue Shari! I didn’t know about using it for foiling with the Tim Holtz foils. Thanks for all your sticky recommendations!
Thanks for all the great information…
Great review!
This is so helpful – thanks for sharing.
Didn’t know there was an adhesive for vellum – that is great.
Great video. Wish it had seen it when I started crafting. I have spent so much purchasing the wrong adhesives for certain purposes. Not covered were specific adhesives for specific purposes such as vellum and refillable tape guns. I love my Xyron!
I’ve been using the Nuvo Deluxe adhesive for a couple months, and it’s the best liquid glue I’ve used. No need for precision fine-tips (which always clog for me), and no squeezing the bottle with all my might to extract the glue. Also a good price point.
Thank you for the run down on all the adhesives! Very helpful!
Very useful info! Thank you Shari!
Thanks for the review!
I see that some designers are now using Ranger collage medium, what is the difference between that and multi matte medium?
Thanks
Thanks for the informative video Shari. You’re right, it is confusing…there are SO many different adhesives on the market now.
Thanks for sharing! Great info.
I see some of my favorite adhesives there and new one to try.
Very helpful info. I have had to switch tape runners because I can no longer find the refills for Scotch and am now using Elmers. Will ck out the one you suggested. I use 3M foam tape and wish they made a longer amt pkg and a price saving for buying more at a bulk price. I use Zig 3 Way glue pen & Glossy accents.
