Easy (But Special!) Gift Tags for the Holidays: Yippee for Yana

Hello, crafters, this is Yana Smakula for Simon Says Stamp! Welcome back for another Yippee For Yana video! Today I’m excited to share a festive gift tag tutorial using the Wrapped With Love set – part of our DieCember® release! It’s that time of year when many of us are wrapping gifts, and if you’re like me, adding a handmade tag makes the whole process feel extra special.
In the video, I walk you through how to create the tag shown below, and then I mass-produce six more using the same design. These tags do take a bit of time and attention, but they’re absolutely worth the effort – perfect for your closest friends and family members, the ones who truly treasure handmade touches.
I began by stamping the door onto red cardstock using clear embossing ink, then heat-embossing with Detail White powder. Embossing on colored cardstock is a great shortcut when you’re making multiples – no coloring required! I stamped two doors per 4 ¼ x 5 ½” panel in my MISTI to speed things up. After embossing, I removed the anti-static powder residue with a pencil eraser so the red cardstock looked crisp and clean.
To give the door depth, I added ink blending at the bottom – first with Brick, then with a deeper shade (Cabernet). This instantly adds richness and dimension without the need for markers or paint.
The Wrapped With Love Door Dies are brilliant – they not only cut the door out but also create cut lines so the door can open! You can leave it as-is or add a sentiment, photo, or message behind the door.
I used the additional window dies to create “glass” panels in each door for an elegant look.
Instead of fussing with narrow foam strips, I cut the door shape from fun foam. This is a great trick for mass production – quick dimension, no gaps. I simply trimmed the foam slightly smaller so it wouldn’t show behind the cardstock.
Next, I stamped and die cut the accents:
- Wreaths in Pine ink
- Bows in Cranberry ink
- Sentiments in Antique Gold embossing powder
- I also heat embossed “To:”, “From:”, and a small tree in Antique Gold onto white panels for the inside of each tag.
I die cut the outer tag shape from Rainforest cardstock – this blue-green shade is simply stunning. Then I added a touch of Night ink at the bottom for depth.
I scored the white “To/From” panel at the top so the tag opens easily and attached it behind the Rainforest tag base.
Now the fun part! Adhere the door onto the Rainforest tag. Add the wreath and bow using foam adhesive for dimension. Tie the tag with iridescent cord or baker’s twine (I switched to red-and-white twine when wrapping gifts because it pairs beautifully with kraft paper).
The finished tags feel luxurious, dimensional, and festive – little keepsakes for the people you love most.
Here’s a peek at one of the wrapped gifts with a completed tag attached. Doesn’t it feel like Christmas morning already?
