Yippee for Yana: Candy Cane Background Card
Hi friends! Happy Wednesday! Please join me in welcoming back the super talented Yana Smakula for her bi-monthly installment Yippee for Yana series of inspiration on our blog! She used our new Candy Cane background stamp to make this gorgeous card below! Be sure to watch the video to learn more and enjoy!

Hi everyone, this is Yana Smakula, welcome back for another Yippee For Yana video! In this episode, I will show you how to create a Christmas card featuring the Candy Cane background stamp.

I wanted to do something a bit different today, possibly even something a bit out of my comfort zone. I started by stamping the Candy Cane background in clear embossing ink onto light blue paper, Simon’s Sea Glass cardstock. I used my MISTI stamping tool to make it easier to stamp this background.
Once the background was stamped I covered it with clear embossing powder, I used the Fine Detail powder from Simon and heat set the powder with my heat tool to melt it.

I knew I wanted to add some simple coloring, so I picked 2 candy cane images positioned next to each other forming a bit of a heart shape and decided to color those. First, I used my white Sakura pen in size 8 and colored the narrow sections white. Next, I used several Copic markers in red and colored the remaining sections red. For this I used R39, R27, R24 and R22 markers, those are my go-to marker colors for coloring anything red.

Next, I coated both with a generous amount of lacquer using the Hero Arts Lacquer pen. You can use any other similar product, like Glossy Accents. Having coated the candy canes I set the background aside and let it dry for several hours. My idea was to ink blend the background using dark blue ink. The coated card canes would have resisted the ink and would have remained red and white, while the background would turn blue and the Sea Glass cardstock covered with clear embossing powder would resist the ink also, revealing beautiful light blue outlines to the rest of the candy canes.
With the lacquer dry, I proceeded to add ink blending. This is where I think I might have overdone it, I am not 100% sure I like the ink blending better. But once I started adding color it was too late to stop, so I kept on blending it until I had the entire panel covered with this beautiful deep blue. This is the color Navy from Hero Arts, it’s my favorite deep dark blue ink pad.

Next, I sprayed the background using Iridescent White Shimmer spray and cleaned up the candy canes from the shimmer. I had also already stamped a sentiment for this card – it reads Have a Merry Little Christmas and comes from the Clean Line Christmas stamp set by CZ. I used foam adhesive and foam mounted it onto the card. I also used a white pen and colored some of the candy cane sections white to help them stand out from the background. Lastly, I embellished the card using Simon’s sequins in Blue Moon and that finished this card!
Have fun stamping!

Studio Monday with Nina-Marie: Flippin’ Awesome Lawn Fawn!

Hello friends! It’s Nina-Marie here with you today, sharing a flippin’ awesome project with you featuring the Lawn Fawn Flippin’ Awesome dies! This fun and SUPER easy set makes the most amazing interactive card ever. I truly love this set and hope after watching today’s video, you’ll be inspired to try this for yourself!

I’m pairing the stamp set with Lawn Fawn’s Yeti or Not stamp set, which features the cutest little pair of yetis.

When you open the Flippin’ Awesome card, inside you find a hidden surprise… a gift card! This would be perfect for the holidays as a gift. However, you can leave the gift card out of the design and simply decorate the last panel of the Flippin’ Awesome card to coordinate with the rest of the panels.

Be sure to watch the video below to see how easy this card is to create! I hope you love it as much as I did making it!
