Throwback Thursday – Fabulous Projects You Might Have Missed!

Welcome to another edition of Throwback Thursday—a trip back in time! For each throwback, we’ll be spotlighting fantastic cards and projects using products from previous releases. The new stuff is always SO fun, but think about all of those great products you’ve collected and set aside. They are STILL AWESOME! And we want to inspire you with fantastic inspiration from our creative archives.
Recently we released two fantastic Valentine-themed collections—Love You More and Hey Bestie, but today we’d like to take a look back at a collection that made its appearance last year. You might remember some pretty spectacular products from our You Are Loved collection. Below you’ll find four inspiring cards created with goodies from this lovey-dovey release!
First off is this stunning floral card by Yoonsun Hur:

With the help of the So Loved stamp set from last year’s You Are Loved release, Yoonsun created this beauty. She used the stamps from the set along with nine different dye inks to create this design. You can see Yoonsun’s original post HERE where she also shares a clean and simple card using the same set.

Next, let’s throw it back to this fun design by Lisa Addesa:

The Ornate Love stamp set and coordinating dies helped Lisa pull together this pretty design. The large heart die is actually designed to cut out the large heart stamp in the set, but it works well on its own as well. Lisa says that she just LOVED coloring in the letters with lots of different markers. She shared this card HERE on her blog.

And let’s not forget this shiny beauty designed by Misty Elam:

Misty had a blast using Deco Foil Transfer Gel and foil with the Reverse Hearts stencil from the You Are Loved release. The sheen on this card has me going GAGA! You can see Misty’s original blog post HERE (which includes two more cards), and she shares a how-to on YouTube HERE.

And finally this lovely and thoughtful spring-feeling card by Yana Smakula:

The beautiful Moments of Grace stamp set from this release includes pretty florals and leaves which Yana colored with markers. The sentiment is from the Love Messages stamp set also from the You are Loved release. Fun fact: This card was shared right here on our blog exactly one year ago today as part of our Yippee for Yana series. You can check out the original blog post HERE and see how she created the card on YouTube HERE.

Slimline Waves Say Cheese by Whimsy Stamps
Hi friends! Happy Wednesday! Please join me in a warm welcome to first time special guest Deb Davis of Whimsy stamps on our blog today!

Hey there fabulous fellow card makers, are you lovin’ the slimline card trend that’s all the rage right now? I sure am, and I’m excited to be on the Simon Says Stamp blog today sharing a card using the NEW Slimline Waves Die from the innovators of slimline dies…Whimsy Stamps.
We debuted these fresh new dies a few months ago and since then I can’t seem to stop making anything but slimline cards (lol), fair warning, they are addictive! And now that you’ve been duly warned of their addictiveness ;) let’s make one…
If you’re not familiar with the size of slimline cards (also known as tall & skinny cards) they’re super easy to make, here’s how:

Start with an 8.5 x 11 piece of card stock and cut it to 8.5 x 7 then put the 7″ side at the top of your score board and score it at 3.5″, fold it on the score line and voila you’ve just made your first slimline card base!
And what’s extra cool is the left over 8.5 x 4 piece is the perfect sized piece to cut out your slimline die shape.
For my card today, I decided to use white card stock for the Slimline Waves frame instead of using the leftover black piece.

Once I had the slimline card base and frame cut out, I also used the Slimline Waves Die to cut out a few pieces of the black & white striped paper that’s from the NEW Starring Hearts Paper Pack (one of my fav paper packs ever).
For the other elements on the card I stamped several of the mischievous little rats, and their various cheeses from the NEW Say Cheese clear stamp set then water colored them using Tim Holtz Distress Inks (Hickory Smoke, Fossilized Amber, Tattered Rose, and Rusty Hinge).

Once they were dry I cut them out using the matching NEW Say Cheese Die Set.

Aren’t these little guys just the cutest?! I’m not sure if they are helping each other to get the cheese or if they are trying to steal the cheese from each other…what do you think?

To assemble everything I first glued the white Slimline Waves frame flat onto the front of the black card base. Then I glued the black & white striped paper into three of the openings. And to add a little more dimension, I popped up all the rats with Gina K Foam Tape.

To complete my card I heat embossed a few of the the Say Cheese sentiments with white embossing powder on black card stock and just cut them out with scissors and popped them up with foam tape as well.

The Whimsy Stamps slimline dies make tall & skinny cards so quick and easy, you can check out all of them HERE. -I hope you enjoyed today’s post and I hope to see you sharing lots of creative slimline cards with us soon…have FUN!
Thanks so much! —Deb
