How to Create A Watercolor Look with A Background Stamp: Crafty with Caly

Hello! It’s always nice to re-visit a technique that I haven’t done in a while. Have you tried faux watercoloring with Distress Inks? It’s so easy and fun and I hope you’ll enjoy today’s video!
Background stamps with lots of solid areas are great for this technique so I thought the Alessa Background cling stamp from the Be Bold release was perfect for today’s card. All you have to do is apply Distress Ink over the image and spritz it with water before stamping! Watercolor paper is needed for this technique and will lend to that watercolor look.

As you can see from the video, you can get multiple impressions without re-inking. I got three panels out of it by spritzing it again with water before stamping on the other two panels. I chose to use the second panel because it was a good balance between the boldness of the first panel and the light wash on the second panel.
I used the new A2 Nesting Frames to make a border using some Rose Gold Metallic paper. I also used the metallic paper on the Happy die for the sentiment. This Happy die coordinates with the CZ Happy Combos stamp/die set.
Next, I added a Whirl Dragonfly. I used vellum for the wings and Holographic Rainbow cardstock for the butterfly. I love the blue to purple blend of the paper for the dragonfly’s body! The use of Rainbow Dazzling Gems just finishes off my project with a touch of shine. I love these multi-colored gems and I think they are so neat!

Colorful Card featuring NEW Tim Holtz Vault Sizzix Collection

Hi there crafty friends! It’s Cheiron and I am back with another project using Tim Holtz products. This time I am using some of the dies from the newest release, the Vault Pocket Watch dies. I thought it would be fun to give the pocket watch some dimension and fill it with some colorful gears. I cut the base out 3 times once from Black Cardstock, once from Acetate and then lastly from grey textured cardstock. For the last piece I added the circle into the center so it would cut out a window.
I took some of the Tim Holtz Idea-ology Kraft Stock in Metallic Colors and cut a bunch of the gears that come with the pocket watch dies out of all different colors of metallic. This is a perfect way to use up any of those scraps that you have been saving. I arranged my gears and adhered them to the black piece I cut out. I took my acetate piece and adhered that to the back of the grey piece with Distress Collage Medium and let it dry. Once it was dry, I added some thick black foam squares to the back of it, flipped it over and added to my black piece with all of the colorful gears. I wanted to keep the card clean and simple with a bit of texture. I took a piece of Distress Mixed Media Heavystock and ran it through the Dotted Embossing folder, and also cut a black panel slightly larger and a card base of Schoolhouse Red Cardstock.
To assemble the card, I scored and folded the red base, added my black mat, then added the Dotted panel on top. I added the pocket watch to the front using Distress Collage Medium, then added a Quote Chip Label with some Distress Collage Medium under the pocket watch and some black foam squares under the piece that was hanging off to keep it level.
There are so many fun things I can think of to fill up this pocket watch with! I hope you will try it out for yourself :)
