Infusions with Stencils by Anna-Karin Evaldsson

Hi friends! Happy Sunday! I’m delighted to share these fun mixed media card projects by Anna-Karin Evaldsson! Be sure to read on for all the details, and enjoy!

Hi everyone! Summer is here and spring went by so quickly. I am happy to be back here with a new
tutorial. Today I am sharing fun backgrounds made with stencils and Paper Artsy Infusions Colored
Stains
. I made two cards since I couldn’t choose which of the two backgrounds to use. Infusions ColoredStains can be used for many techniques and here I used them with stencils and to make backgrounds for die cut shapes. I recently made a color wheel with Tim Holtz new Wheel stencil and thought it would be fun to use that same stencil with Infusions. Let’s start!

Start by adhering the stencil to watercolor paper with Simon Says Stamp Very Very Low Tack Tape.

Mist with water and then sprinkle Infusions on top. I have pierced a whole in the lids and use the bottles as salt shakers. Here I used Lemoncello and A Bit Jaded. You can also use other colors and a great alternative to A Bit Jaded is Emerald Isle or In The Navy. Instead of Lemoncello, you can try Golden Sands.

Remove the stencil and the tape. Mist the stencil with water and press it down on watercolor paper. I placed a scrap paper on top and pressed carefully. This way, you get two backgrounds.

You can also do the technique with other stencils. Here is Tim Holtz Labels stencil together with Golden Sands and Orange County Infusions.

Cut the backgrounds and stamp here and there with Simon Says Stamp Old Letter Background.

Next, we will make the paper that the birds were die cut from. Mist watercolor paper generously with water.

Sprinkle with Infusions and mist with more water if needed. Infusions are water soluble particles with two components, a permanent dye color pigment mixed with walnut crystal particles. The latter dissolve slower than the pigment particles and if you dab the background with a paper towel you can remove some of the brown particles.

Repeat, but with Lemoncello and A Bit Jaded.

When the papers are dry, die cut the Simon Says Stamp Standing Whirl Bird and Soaring Whirl Bird from the papers. Also die cut them from Simon Says Stamp Black Glitter Cardstock.

Assemble the birds and glue with Simon Says Stamp Precision Craft Tacky Glue.

This card is a little smaller and narrower than the second one and has more of the yellow shades and more texture.

Distress the edge of the watercolor paper and matte on black cardstock. Adhere to folded cardstock and stitch around the panel with a sewing machine and black thread.

Die cut Simon Says Stamp Fancy Hello from Simon Says Stamp Black Glitter paper. Die cut the matte from a yellow area of the Infusions paper that you made. The small sentiment comes from Tim Holtz Tiny Text and was also stamped on the Infusions paper.

The Standing Whirl Bird is so cute and the texture of the Infusions paper fits well with birds.

Infusions create interesting color combinations and here you can see all those little specks and blends of color better.

The second background has less texture and more open space than the first one, giving it a different look, even though it was made with the same stencil and the same Infusions. Since the stencil was misted with water before stamping it on the page, the Infusions have blended more than on the first card and look like watercolors.

Stamping with stencils is fun. I was surprised about how clean and defined the lines are.

At first, I was going to use two orange birds on the card, but then changed my mind and used a blue and an orange one.

I placed the die on the background so that most of the texture would be on the bird’s stomach.

The matte was die cut from a blue piece of the background papers and the small sentiment stamped on an orange piece. Thank you so much for looking at this tutorial! I hope it inspired you to play around with stencils and Infusions Colored Stains.

NEW Tim Holtz Distress Spritzes!

Hi friends! Happy Saturday! We’re excited to introduce a FUN and NEW item in the Tim Holtz Distress Family! Welcome: Distress Spritz! To learn a bit more about them, we’d like to share this great description by our friends at Ranger Ink!

Tim Holtz Distress® Spritz is a fluid spray medium that coordinates with the Distress color palette.  Each of the 12 new Distress Spritz colors are carefully formulated blends of pearlized pigments in a clear fluid base.  Distress Spritz was developed to enhance and work together with other Distress products including Distress Ink, Oxide Ink, Paints, Pencils and more. Use the new Distress Spritz to create unique tone on tone effects by “spritzing” over inked or painted surfaces.  A unique feature of the Spritzes is that formulation does not react with the “reactive” properties in the other Distress products.  Once dry, pigments do not wipe off.

Psst! While they’re not quite shipping yet, we did want to let you know there are two additional items arriving later on to support these cool new Spritzes including Replacement Sprayers and a Distress Spritz Storage Tin! Stay tuned!
