Newton’s Nook Designs: Winter Woofs!
Hi friends! Happy Thursday! Thanks for stopping by our blog today! I’m delighted to welcome back special guest Jen Jackson to our blog today! She is the owner of the fabulous Newton’s Nook, and sharing some super sweet new winter inspiration for us today! Read on for more information and enjoy!
Hello! This is Jen from Newton’s Nook Designs and I’m super excited to share some adorable winter dog cards with you today! Although you may know Newton’s Nook Designs for our cute kitty stamps we also have some fun dog stamps too and today I’m featuring our latest dog stamp set called Winter Woofs!
I created two clean and simple cards today. For the first card, I stamped the image of the Labrador wearing a scarf and skates from the Winter Woofs stamp set onto a panel of Canson watercolor paper using Archival Jet Black Ink. I then colored in the image using Derwent Inktense pencils. I love these pencils since they create such fun bright colors but still have a watercolor effect. I just lightly color around the edge of an area where I want the darkest spots to be and then use a Tim Holtz watercolor brush to pull the color into the other areas of the image.
On this image, I also lightly drew a line on either side of the dog to give him a bit of “ground” to sit on. I stamped the “You make cold days warmer” sentiment next to the dog, also with Archival Jet Black Ink. Next, I stamped a few snowflakes using Iced Spruce Distress Ink. I decided to add some splatters to the background. I covered my dog with a sticky note so he didn’t get splattered and then I squished the Iced Spruce and Salty Ocean ink pads onto my non-stick craft sheet and spritzed them with water. I then used a paintbrush to pick up the colors and flicked it off onto the background. To finish the card I mounted it onto a card base made of Neenah Desert Storm Cardstock.
For the second card I used the same method to create the card but for this card, I chose the image of the Husky building a snowman from the Winter Woofs stamp set! This image can be used with our without the snowman face since it is a separate stamp but I thought it was super cute so I added it on. I stamped the images again with Archival Jet Black Ink onto a panel of Canson watercolor paper and colored them with Derwent Inktense pencils. This time I chose the “Ready, Set, Snow!” sentiment to go above the dog. Then I added the snowflakes and splatters just like the first card!
These cards would be so cute to send someone during the winter months for a wintery hello or even a cold weather birthday wish! I hope these two cute dog cards inspired you to get inky and create some clean and simple winter cards of your own!
