Stenciling with Translucent Embossing Paste
Hi friends! Happy Tuesday! Please give a warm welcome back to special guest designer Kelly Rasmussen! She made a cool card using a technique by stenciling with translucent embossing paste. Check it out and enjoy!
Hello, crafters! I’m so happy to be here today to share a birthday card using Hero Arts and Simon Says Stamp products.
Often times I don’t plan out my cards, I just start with a background and see where it takes me. For this card, I started out by using the Hero Arts Honeycomb Stencil with Wendy Vecchi Translucent Embossing Paste. Once dry this gives a very similar appearance to clear heat embossing. And like heat embossing, it works great for the emboss resist technique.
For the resist color, I used Picked Raspberry, Worn Lipstick and Abandoned Coral Distress Inks applied with a Ranger Foam Blending Tool. I chose these three colors because they blend seamlessly and create a subtle gradient of color.
Once I had the background done, I knew I wanted a larger sentiment and so I turned to the Simon Says Stamp Big Scripty Greetings set. All of the messages in this set are gorgeous and any one of them would have worked for my card, but I chose the birthday message. I white heat embossed the sentiment on a piece of Simon Says Stamp Fog Cardstock, which is a great light grey color, but still allows the white text to show up.
To coordinate with the message panel, I mounted my stenciled background onto a top folding Fog card base. I thought some natural wood tones would look great with the color scheme so I added some May Arts Natural Twine and a Hero Arts Little Clothespin holds the message in place.
I hope you enjoyed my card! And I want to give a huge thanks to the amazing people at Simon Says Stamp for having me as a guest today. :)

Studio Monday with Nina-Marie: Art Impressions Window Action Wobble
Hello everyone, welcome back to my latest Studio Monday tutorial! This week I am featuring one of Art Impressions‘ adorable stamps called Dog Mouthfuls. There are quite a few of these awesome Mouthfuls stamps, which are images and dies that allow you to put cute accessories inside the critter’s mouth. Really fun!!
I wanted to use all the accessories from the Dog Mouthfuls set, so I ended up making three cards. All of these cards feature a super fun design element: a window looking into the inside of the card where the dog sits… on an action wobble!
The action wobbles are also from Art Impressions; they great for adding dimension and a bit of surprise fun! Normally, I see action wobbles on the front of the card… so I thought I would give things a little twist and put them on the inside instead!
All of the images are colored with Copic markers, but you could use any medium you prefer. I added additional details to each dog with Black and Clear glaze pens from Sakura; black was added to the dogs’ eyes and noses. Clear was used on anything that would be “wet”, such as the tongue, the drool on the gift, and the dog bone.
A funny story… when I was creating these cards, I saw the cookie and for some reason thought it was a pizza!! Not sure what I was thinking! But I guess that goes to show you how with a bit of color and imagination, you can make anything be whatever you want! I love the idea of a dog with a pizza. :)
One of my favorite aspects of these cards is the cute, speech bubble die cut greeting on the inside. I think it’s really fun to make your critters “talk” and these Nested Talk Bubble dies from Simon come in so many sizes that you’re likely to have one for any sentiment in your collection.
Be sure to watch the video below to see how I created these window action wobble cards using Art Impressions stamps, dies and interactive pieces! Thanks so much for stopping by; I will be back next week with more inspiration for you!
