Alcohol Pearl Inks & the May 2019 Card Kit

Hello, all! Kristina here with some inspiration from the May 2019 Card Kit! The kit it packed with fun Tim Holtz Alcohol Pearl Inks, so that’s what I decided to play with today.
Using the Yupo paper included in the kit, I created backgrounds using the pink and blue inks, plus the Alcohol Blending Solution. These backgrounds were so fun to make!

At one point, I smooshed my background onto the surface of my Easy Clean Mat and then picked up the ink on the surface with a second piece of Yupo paper. This applied a more diluted version of the inks and I was able to get paler, more muted colors than the original background. I’ll have to remember this technique in the future when I want softer colors!
I but the large sheets of Yupo paper in half and created two cards. For the first card, I used Alcohol Lift Ink to stamp the floral images from the card kit stamp set, Delicate Flowers (also available for purchase outside of the kit). I stamped them multiple times and wiped away the Lift Ink each time in order to reveal a “ghost like” stamping effect.
I finished that card off with a greeting from the stamp set white heat embossed on back card stock.

For my second card, I wanted to add the flowers from the Delicate Flowers stamp set, but this time I wanted the flowers popped up off the surface. So I stamped them and colored them with Copic markers.
The stamp set doesn’t have coordinating dies currently (if you want them, let Simon know in the comments!), so I hand cut the flowers out. I finished the card by adhering a white heat embossed sentiment to the bottom corner and then used foam tape to adhere the flowers.

Studio Monday: Dahlia Flower 3 Ways

Hello crafty friends! It’s Nina-Marie here with you today, sharing 3 ideas for creating with our Simon exclusive Dahlia die. I love this die, as it is so stunning, it makes a gorgeous impact as the center point on a card.

My first idea for using this die is to foil it with a hot foil machine (I used the Gemini Foil Press, but you can also use the Spellbinders or Couture Creations foil machines instead). You could leave the foiling as is, or add color to it! I opted for a bit of color with Copics. The subtle Sea Breeze foil accents the coloring perfectly!

The second idea I have to share with you is in lay die cutting. I always enjoy in lay die cutting, and this Dahlia looks especially elegant in glitter cardstock. I used white glitter cardstock for the outline, along with blues and green for the negative areas.

Finally, the last idea I have for you is using simple die cuts with leftover backgrounds and scraps to make a fabulous design – I had this so much fun doing this, I made a whole bunch of these cards (keep scrolling to see them all)! I don’t know about you, but I have way too many scraps and backgrounds in my crafty space that never seem to get used… this is such a great way to knock down that stash!

I hope you will watch the video to see how I put all these card ideas together using the Dahlia flower die! Thanks for stopping by and visiting with me today; I will see you again very soon!
