Summer School with Nichol Magouirk

Hello and welcome to day 3 of Summer School!

Today we’re sharing a card created by Nichol Magouirk using lots of products from the new Teacher’s Pet release! This card would be great for men and women teachers and features some awesome products and techniques!

The black embossing paste over the black cardstock is perfect for some great texture without being too obvious. And like yesterday’s card by Shari, Nichol chose to have the the Teacher die-cut be the punch of color on the card.

The layered tags and mix of stars on the background, pull this card together and make it that much more special! Those little details don’t seem like a lot, but they really make the card!

To see how Nichol created her card, you can watch the video below.

Summer School wouldn’t be complete without the chance to win some crafty school supplies, right!?

  1. Wonderful card to show how much we appreciate our children’s wonderful teachers. Our schools start early, August 18th this year. Too soon

  2. Oh wow, you guys are killing me! These ideas are all SOOO great, and most of my crafting stuff is still in boxes, either in my basement, or in storage here in Missouri, or in storage back in California! Aaaagh! I so want to duplicate these ideas and bless my kids’ teachers! My husband says NO MORE CRAFT SPENDING – I think the number of boxes marked “art room” freaked him out. Lol! I have to keep reminding myself this too shall pass, and one day I will get to make art again.

  3. Lovely, masculine card! I really must use embossing paste more… Our schools start up the first Tues. after Labour Day.

  4. Love the use of embossing paste on this card! No kids at home here but mine always had to go back to school just before Labor Day , which really messed up the long wknd.

  5. I always started back to soon in August. But my kids always went back after labor day. Maybe it depends on the part of the country you live in.

  6. This card is perfect for a male teacher, love it. My great granddaughter started 7th grade today, August 4, way too early. I remember starting school after Labor day and going well into June the next year. Oh well, times are changing. I will just have to go with the flow. Thanks for sharing your creation with us.

  7. This is my first visit to this blog. I follow Maymay Made It and she had Simon Says Stamps products listed. Loved the blog. I am now subscribed. We never started school until after Labor Day

  8. School starts in our district today–however, my daughter is a HS biology teacher, her first day of “meetings” is today and the students arrive next Monday. My son is finishing his last year of college, however ALL of his classes are online, he is finishing his IT degree through a joint program with community college system and a state university that is 3 hours away from our home. He attended “real” time classes for the first few years, his last 30 credits is entirely online, the program runs all year. He just finished his “summer” finals, has a 2 week break and classes resume. School sure is different these days! I love your teacher card–the colors and embossing paste feature are awesome!

  9. Back in the day when I went to school, the first day of school was in September…gotta love that LONG summer break!!

  10. I no longer have a child going back to school but my Daughter is a first year teacher teaching a 4 th grade class and the kids will start this coming Monday the 11th!

  11. Awesome card today! Would you believe the kids in my town started back to school today!!! When I was their age it wasn’t until after Labor Day! Amazing.

  12. when I was in school it didn’t start until after Labor Day. Got to enjoy three months of fun – spent a lot of time reading and dreaming. The classes have been great. Love the black on black.

  13. School! Oh my gosh my daughter has already started school! She started July 23rd! Kids in South San Diego in California hardly get a summer anymore. It’s a good thing my daughter likes school! :) but I do miss our 3-month summer breaks.

  14. Thanks for sharing your CUTE card. I would LOVE to get one of those for sure.
I am a teacher. Teachers here start back Aug 25th. Our students start back Sept. 2nd.

  15. My twins grew up so no school days but I have such fond memories of when I was young and when my girls were going to start school…they had so much fun picking out the favorite outfit and matching bows , shoes etc. I always made them some crazy colored eggs or pancakes just to make it a memory and then I always took their picture…same place outside on our porch labeled first day of school And the year. They were so excited about their book bags and all their new school supplies…too bad it didn’t last all year. My twins were involved in a fatal motor vehicle accident when they were 16 with a drunk driver so I can’t talk and reminisce about the first day of school with them but I am so glad that I kept up that tradition of calling in late to work on the first day of school and taking my lunch break at 3:10 when they got off the bus so at least on that first day I could hear about all the fabulous exciting things that happened on that magical first day of school. Thanks for the great memory reminder!! Love the card…you guys are all so crafty!! Gabby

  16. School is still going for us. So mine will start there’s in October. We home school ours. So these supplies will make some very cute cards for people. I have a boy who loves art.

  17. My oldest graduated college in May and I have one left. He leaves Tuesday to head back to school, but he always returns early for training camp since he is on the Cross Country and the Indoor/Outdoor Track Team. He has to be there by August 17th, but wants to be there early since he’s tired of running around here, LOL! First day of his Senior year of college begins August 25th.

  18. Great teacher card! My child is all grown up and I think our country school started sometime in August – too old to remember. Ha! Ha!

  19. Love the use of the paste. The card looks way more complicated than it actually. Thank you for the lesson.

  20. I love Simon Says Stamps and Nichol Magouirk’s videos. I just had to have the Prima’s doll stamps after I saw her doll stamp videos. The Teacher’s Pet release is awesome. My son goes back to school August 11th. I started today. Summer vacation is over.

  21. I am a retired reading specialist who spent many years in the classroom as a 2nd and 4th grade teacher before I became systemwide. Over my 36 years in education, we went back to school from the end of August, then more recently, the 2nd week of July as our calendar changed. Going back to school in July is not a happy time for teachers or kids, but the 2 week vacations every nine weeks is very nice!

  22. Great job, Nicole!!! Advance to the head of the class! Thanks for sharing! Back in the 1960’s, when I was in school, we started the day after Labor Day up until Memorial Day … and they didn’t even care about making up for snow days back then.

  23. Love Nicole’s card! My kids started back to school today! I can’t believe the summer break is already over!

  24. I went to school in Iowa for awhile and it was (then) a state law that school couldn’t start before Labor Day due to the State Fair being at the end of August. It was kinda nice!

  25. Wow… this card is awesome. I really affraid to use black or really dark colors but when I see that card it seems so easy ;)
In Estonia school starts on 1 of September.

  26. My kids go back September.3, 1st and 2nd grade. Got the school stamp collection , needed the colors that ur giving away but sold out, so it would be perfect if I win

  27. Fabulous! In Belgium, where I’m from, every child has summer holiday from the first of July to the first of September. So that was my holiday for many many many years!

  28. Fab card, love the black embossing!
Our children finish school at the end of June and start back at the beginning of September … the stores are already full of back-to-school stuff just to remind them they don’t have much longer to go ;)

  29. I am a teacher and I begin teaching on August 18th but I have to go back a week earlier. When I was a child, I think we began right after Labor Day.
