Mixed Media Butterflies

Hi friends! Happy Sunday! Please join me in welcoming special guest Cheiron Brandon with this gorgeous mixed media card! Read on for all the details and enjoy!

Hi there crafty friends! It’s Cheiron Brandon here and I am thrilled to be back here on the Simon Says Stamp Blog today to share a fun Mixed Media card with you using some of the newest Distress Colors and products from Tim Holtz. I kept my palette simple with Saltwater Taffy, Salvaged Patina, and Frayed Burlap with a hint of gold.

To begin I sprayed a panel of Distress Watercolor cardstock with a bit of water, then Distress Spray Stains in Saltwater Taffy, Salvaged Patina and Frayed Burlap. I dried the panel with a heat tool, and then stamped some writing from the Ledger Script set on top of it using Frayed Burlap Distress Archival Ink. Then I took the Bouquet Stencil and used a palette knife to apply Translucent Grit Paste.

I applied Distress Embossing Glaze in Saltwater Taffy and Salvaged Patina. To do this I put my panel onto a piece of scrap paper, then sprinkled the Distress Embossing Glaze by taking a pinch at a time and sprinkling it over the paste. I sprinkled the Saltwater Taffy on the areas where the underlying color was Saltwater Taffy and did the same for the Salvaged Patina areas. Then I set the panel aside to dry completely. Once it was dry, I heat the glazed paste with an embossing gun and the glaze turned into an almost glass like look.

Then I created the Brushstroke Butterflies. I cut them out of Distress Watercolor Cardstock and then dipped the large cut out pieces into Distress Ink that I had sprayed with water in Saltwater Taffy and Salvaged Patina and dried them with a heat tool. I adhered the other layers of the butterfly with Distress Collage Medium. To add some gold to my card, I painted the raised areas of the butterflies with Gilded Foundry Wax and then embossed them with a heat tool. To create gold splatter on my card, I added a few drops of isopropyl alcohol to the Foundry Wax then used my paint brush to splatter it all over my card panel, and then embossed that as well. I also took my paintbrush with the wax and went around the outside of the card, and embossed that as well.

To assemble my card, I adhered the panel to a white notecard, added the butterflies and a simple sentiment from a Tim Holtz Idea-ology Metallic Sticker. I just love all the fun texture on this card and hope you enjoyed it too!
