Art Journaling with Shari Carroll: Handle With Care
Happy April, everyone! No tricks today, just inspiration. I’m working on building up my tag journal, and today, I have a simple collage using some exceptional Tim Holtz Idea-ology items.
Spring is in the air with this tag, and it’s a great addition to my journal. I started with Tim’s Kraft Sparkle cardstock, the Tag Frame dies, and Entangled Texture Fade folder. From there, I began building. Tim’s new ephemera packs are super simple to pull pieces together for a cohesive look. Everything goes together!

One Stamp, 5 WAYS: Magical Spring!
Hi friends! Happy Friday! My goodness, can you believe we are to the end of March already?! Time keeps on ticking! As always, we round out the month with our beloved Suzy’s One Stamp Five Ways feature– where our friend Suzy Plantamura takes 1 stamp set and makes 5 gorgeous and unique cards. Let’s dive in!
My “one stamp, five ways” post today uses the brand-new Magical Spring stamp set from the Just For You release. I absolutely LOVE this stamp set and I couldn’t wait to share this post with you. I think it is my favorite stamp set ever as Spring, fairies, flowers, and mushroom houses are some of my favorite things! Let’s see if I can make you a fan of this set also by the end of this post!
My first card uses my “random stamping” technique I use with almost every stamp! I stamped most of the images in the Magical Spring stamp set with Intense Black Ink. I arranged them together like a puzzle, trying to keep them all facing one direction. I die-cut this piece with a SSS A2 Thin Frame Die. I then colored all the images in with colored pencils. I used a Sparkle Pen to add sheen over the wings of each fairy and the butterfly wings. I embossed a sentiment from the CZ Big Old Birthday stamp using Tim Holtz Wild Honey Embossing Glaze. I attached that to the bottom of the card front with foam tape behind it.
I had a couple of extra images colored after making all my cards, so I put them to good work. I added an image that was stamped with black ink and colored with colored pencils to the inside of the card. I then stamped a sentiment from the stamp set with black ink and attached that beside the fairy.
I die-cut a rectangle using the SSS Slimline Nested Rectangle Die from white cardstock. I then applied Pawsitively Saturated Ink to it using a mixture of Seafoam and Marine on the top and Latte and Fawn on the bottom. I attached this to a white card base. I stamped the images from the stamp set with black ink and colored them in with colored pencils. I die-cut them out with the matching dies.
I die-cut the Mushroom House and Mushroom Stem dies from white cardstock. I then colored them all with Copic markers. I glued the pieces together and arranged them over the background. I added the stamped images around them to create a scene. I used Mocha PSInk to stamp a sentiment on the mushroom house and another sentiment that I die-cut out and attached to the top left corner. I used White Blizzard Nuvo Glitter drops over the fairy wings and Sunrise Glitter Drops over the butterflies.
I decided to make a 5×7” card so I could fit lots of images on it. I stamped all of the images in the stamp set with Latte Pawsitively Saturated Ink. I then colored them in with Copic Markers. I added some shading and outlines with colored pencils. I love how pencils look over Copics – they work so well together to color small images. I used a white Uniball gel pen to add lines on each item. I die-cut all of them out with the matching dies.
I cut a piece of white cardstock to fit on the front of a 5×7” card. I rubbed Pawsitively Saturated Inks on it primarily on the inside, leaving the edges white. I used Marine for the sky and Fawn for the ground. I arranged all of the images over the scene using foam tape behind some of them. I used Mustard Gold Nuvo Drops over the door knob. I added drops to the background with Iceberg Blue Jewel drops. I applied White Blizzard glitter drops to the wings of the fairies. I stamped a sentiment with Intense Black Ink and applied that to the top left corner. I used Lawn Fawn Guava cardstock for the card base which is my favorite, most used cardstock color ever.
I die-cut a rectangle out of white cardstock using an A2 Thin Frame Rectangle Die. I then applied Pawsitively Saturated Ink to it using Sprout and Fairway for the ground and a mixture of Melon and Peachy for the sky. I attached this to a white cardstock card base.
I stamped images from the stamp set with Intense Black Ink and colored them all in with colored pencils. I die-cut them out and attached them all to the background using foam tape behind some. I stamped a sentiment with Mocha PSInk and attached that over the house. I used White Blizzard Nuvo Glitter Drops over the butterfly and fairy wings. I used some red glitter drops over some of the clothing. I added a doorknob with Copper Penny Nuvo Drops.
I die-cut a rectangle using the SSS Mini Slimline Rectangle Dies and white cardstock. I then applied Marine Ink for the sky and Sprout Ink for the ground. I kept the color more saturated in the center and lighter as I moved out, leaving the edges white. I attached that to a card base made with Heffy Doodle Bubblegum cardstock (another color I just adore). I stamped the images with Latte Ink and colored them with Copic Markers, using colored pencils to add shading and outlines. I used just the flowers the two fairies are holding by cutting them off where the stems ended. I embossed a sentiment from the CZ Big Old Birthday stamp set using Tim Holtz Kitsch Flamingo Embossing Glaze and cut it out with the matching dies. I attached that to the bottom of the card and then arranged all the flowers and snail fairy above it. I used White Blizzard Glitter Drops over the fairy wings and Iceberg Blue Jewel drops around the background.
I had an extra colored image again, so I added another fairy to the inside of this card. I stamped a small sentiment from the stamp set using Mocha Ink and attached both to the bottom corner of the inside of the card.

Mixed Media with Shari Carroll: See Thru Frame
Welcome, everyone!! It’s Shari here with a bright and colorful project for you. I’ve wanted to make something see-thru with the Simon Says Stamp Acetate and finally found the right elements I wanted to use.
I’ve stamped the Picket Fence Studio image onto the acetate using White Stazon. This set the stage for the gorgeous Picket Fence Studio butterfly cut from Simon Says Stamp Silver Matte cardstock. Using Alcohol inks as my color allowed me to preserve the transparency of the project.
