Challenge: Transportation

Trains, planes, automobiles, and even a boat – how are you getting around these days? Whether inspired by the metal and gears, intrigued and wanting to create a steampunk jalopy, or perhaps wishing someone a bon voyage – this week team member Anna-Karin challenges you to be inspired by transportation!

Mona was inspired to give an old truck a new look.

I love anything vintage and shabby so I gave a plain black metal decorative truck a new Patina like paint job using various Distress Paints. For a touch more vintage vibe, I applied Vintage Photo Distress Ink. Since I’m in the holiday spirit, I embellished the truck with a few Christmas Remnant Rubs, a Woodland Tree and Wreath along with a variety of other items.

Anna-Karin is moving and made a folio for documents, mementos and photos.

I worked in Tim Holtz large Collection Folio and covered it with patterned papers from Destinations and French Industrial. The papers were stamped with various transportation stamps. For embellishments, I used the Vintage Globe die, Artful Arrows and Prima wooden planes and suitcases.

Sandra Mouwen loves to go on a hot air balloon ride someday

Well I’m a little bit afraid of heights, but I think if I got the chance I sure would love to go. I chose a bit of a colorful steampunk theme for this card. That’s the vibe the hot air balloon gives me. So I used the Cogs stamp around the corners, and for some color in the background I chose Peacock Feathers and Seedless Preserves. To give it some shimmer I stamped the sentiment in Versamark and applied Heirloom Gold Perfect Pearls to it.

Andrea thought it would be wonderful to travel in a whimsical manner.

What absolute fun I have had with all the various characters in Tim Holtz’s Found Relatives set! Today we find our two adventurers cruising along in a cart with an umbrella that I suspect must be magical. We can thank the wonderful J.R.R. Tolkien for the fine quote included in this piece and we can thank the Away We Go stamp set for making the quote look so great.

Emma has transported you to a time gone by with her wintery scene.

With Christmas preparation in full swing, I wanted to create this winter’s scene on a burlap panel using the wonderful Sleigh Ride stamp from Tim Holtz. To embellish my panel, I added dimensional snowflakes, Christmas ephemera and a decorated tree as the finishing touch.

Suzz decided to pack up all her Christmas Memories into a crocodile valise mini book.

I have hardly pulled out the fun Vintage Valise Sizzix die and when I saw the transportation theme I thought it would be fun to create a Christmas mini-book using the TIm Holtz Layering Crocodile Stencil and the new Prima Gold Crackle Texture Paste. I had fun putting together a variety of pages and can’t wait to fill them up with special memories after the holidays.

Michelle took the phrase, “Merry & Bright” literally this week.

Look closely at the shape. Do you see my bright idea for our Transportation theme? The Hero Arts “Merry and Bright” stamp set is a companion to the BasicGrey Evergreen line of papers and embellishments. I was inspired by the non-traditional colors in this line when creating my vintage inspired hot-air balloon. I used the Tim Holtz Framed Silhouettes Stamp and Die set to create the balloon’s floral print. The little basket is trimmed with Maggie Holmes paper tape.

Meihsia was inspired to create a Road Trip canvas.

Our family loves road trips so I created this mixed media canvas to display with the souvenirs that we got during our trips. I embossed the tag with Tim Holtz Embossing Folders and distressed it with Distress Inks. The image was stamped using Simon Says Stamp Road Trip and Memento Tuxedo Black Ink.

Ashli was inspired by a stamp this week…

This week, I wanted to play with an enlarged image, so I stamped the bike from the Dear Lizzy Daydreamer Stamp Set and then enlarged it on my scanner. This gave me the perfect foundation for layering bits of Studio Calico papers, Maggie Holmes Embellishments, and plenty of watercolors. To finish things off, my journaling about my little one’s sense of adventure is tucked behind the photo using a Simply Stories Tag.

I (May) am traveling via wings this week.

I do not use this wing embossing folder nearly enough, and I love how it looks paired with some distress spray stains and gears for a steam punk journey on this tag. After all – transportation doesn’t have to be a plain or ordinary thing!

50dollar_voucher_600px

As always, Simon Says Stamp is giving away a $50 gift voucher that will go to a random entry chosen by random generator. To qualify all you need to do is create a new project that ties in (in any way!) with our theme and post it, along with a link back to this challenge, and add a link here. This challenge will end at 11:59pm on Sunday December 14th Eastern time. We will also be choosing some of our entries to put in the spotlight – a special honor where we talk about why we loved that entry in particular and award a special badge too! For the full rules, read the “challenge rules” posted in the side-bar here on our blog.
