USE PATTERNED PAPERS\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n

With all of the background stamps, stencils and paints out there patterned papers have been taking a back seat, especially in the word of mixed media, so we thought it was about time we included them in our projects!<\/p>\n

Alison\u00a0<\/a>\u00a0made a mini album using empty toilet rolls and patterned papers<\/p>\n

Like most crafters I’ve got a hoard of patterned paper which I take out and stroke, but rarely use! \u00a0I’ve broken into it to make a mini-album with the Tim Holtz Wallflower Paper Stash<\/a> and some empty toilet rolls. \u00a0There are Photobooth photos <\/a>and collages inside made using the Idea-ology Pocket Cards<\/a> and some other paper snippets, and I’ve added metal embellishments – a Timepiece<\/a> on the cover; File Tabs<\/a> on the pull-out pages, altered with Fresco paints and Treasure Gold<\/a>,\u00a0\u00a0and Muse Tokens<\/a>, Foliage<\/a> and Philosophy Tags<\/a> in the collaging. \u00a0Come over to Words and Pictures<\/a> for a proper look inside.<\/p>\n

Andrea<\/a> made some tart tin medals with a plethora of patterned paper pieces.<\/p>\n

Maybe I should still be in elementary school, but if I ever get any sort of badge or medal, I smile and walk a bit taller.\u00a0 Hoping my friends feel the same way, I made some medals for them that celebrate their talents and characteristics.\u00a0 The metal part of the medals are made from smashed tart tins and the patterned paper “ribbons” are made from some of my favorite current collections: Webster’s Pages’ Painted Passport<\/a>, Bo Bunny’s Believe<\/a>, Lawn Fawn’s Perfectly Plaid<\/a> and Shimelle’s Starshine<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Anna-Karin<\/a> prepared an album ready to be filled with summer memories.<\/p>\n

\"Summer_album-Layers-of-ink\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Last year, I made a mini-album with our summer photos, and I wanted to do the same this year, with a 6 x 8 Echo Park album<\/a> as my base. I used Kaisercraft Story Book<\/a> patterned paper to decorate the cover, and prepared inserts for many of the pages, also including paper by Prima, from the Vintage Emporium <\/a>and French Riviera<\/a>\u00a0pads. Simon Says Stamp sentiment stamps were used for both the cover and the inside pages, such as the new Uplifting Thoughts<\/a> set, from the Among the Stars<\/a> release.<\/p>\n

Barbara<\/a> let herself fascinate by the blue of this \u00a0patterned paper!<\/p>\n

Blue is definitely, next to the green, one of my favorite colors! This color \u00a0is for me synonymous of \u00a0elegance and this word perfectly matches with \u00a0Dapper Paper Stash by Tim Holtz<\/a>. \u00a0I chose to cover \u00a0a Mini clipboard <\/a>and I ‘ve played with these patterned papers, Stitched Ovals<\/a> \u00a0and \u00a0Dapper die<\/a> !\u00a0\u00a0To \u00a0make contrast with blue shade \u00a0I used Core’dinations Kraft core Metallic<\/a> and Nostalgic Collection<\/a> : they are perfect! Distress crayons<\/a> \u00a0in various colors are so \u00a0incredible to make look older the clip at the top and I love use them in this way too!! The buttons are \u00a0absolutely \u00a0vintage, directly from my \u00a0Mom’s sewing \u00a0box !<\/p>\n

Cathie<\/a>\u00a0used several different die cut sets to create her “Every Day Is A Blessing” mixed media art piece.<\/div>\n

I have so much patterned paper in my stash and this is a wonderful way to use it. I cut several shapes for my project from My Favorite Things Spring Garden<\/a> and \u00a0Things With Wings<\/a> die cut sets along with the Lawn Fawn Sunny Skies<\/a> die cuts. I shaded everything with Faber-Castell Pitt Big Brush Pens<\/a> and added a sentiment from the Paper Artsy ELB22<\/a> stamp set.<\/p>\n

Cheiron<\/a> decided to break into her 6 x 6 paper pads and finally cut one up!<\/p>\n

I have a habit of buying 6 x 6 paper pads and never using them! This week I decided to finally cut into one of them and make some fun tags, perfect to send with parcels in the mail. I used this Project Life Sweet Edition<\/a> paper pad and cut the papers up to make some fun tags, layering the strips on with some Ranger matte multi medium<\/a>. I die cut a couple of the fun Simon Says Stamp painted dies: painted\u00a0hello<\/a>\u00a0and painted create<\/a>\u00a0to add words to my tags.<\/p>\n

When it came to this week’s challenge, I was really spoilt for choice with all the wonderful paper collections that are around at the moment but there was one that really did stand out for me and that was the Dapper Paper Stash by Tim Holtz<\/a> and I instantly knew that these papers would be perfect for me to create an altered box project with a hidden surprise inside. For the cover of my altered box, I used the fabulous Dapper Die<\/a> to die cut felt<\/a> and mounted this onto a die cut Stitched Rectangle<\/a>. I matted the image onto burlap<\/a> before attaching it to my box covered with paper from the Dapper stash and for a finishing touch I added a quote band<\/a>. I do hope you’ll pop over to my blog to take a look at the inside of this project.<\/p>\n

Kath<\/a>\u00a0decorated a chipboard tile with papers from\u00a0Tim Holtz Dapper Paper Stash<\/a><\/p>\n

I covered my tile with paper from Tim Holtz \u00a012×12 Dapper Paper Stash<\/a>, coloured the edges with Gathered Twigs Distress Ink<\/a> using a blending too<\/a>l and created texture using the Flourish Stencil from Mini Layering Stencils Set 10 <\/a>and Studio 490 Crackled Texture Paste<\/a>. I used the Sizzix Tim Holtz Garden Greens a<\/a>nd Tattered Poinsettia<\/a> dies to cut the leaf stems and flowers from contrasting papers. I used the Signo Uniball White Pen<\/a> to add highlights to the leaf stems and added an Idea-ology Dapper Fastener<\/a> to the centre of the flowers. I added a strip of paper and Dapper Design Tape<\/a> in the corner. I stamped the tickets and the sentiment from Tim Holtz Odds and Ends<\/a> with Black Archival Ink,<\/a> cut them out, inked around the edges with Gathered Twigs and fixed in place with 3D foam pads<\/a>. I smudged Distress Collage Medium Matte<\/a> around the edges of the tile with my finger and sprinkled with Prima Mini Art Stones<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Lols<\/a>\u00a0decorated a Mini Clipboard<\/a> using Patterned Tissue Wrap<\/a><\/p>\n

When I saw Kath’s decorated clipboard<\/a> a few weeks ago I just had to get one for me! I love that we inspire each other to have a go at making things that we would never have thought of! I started by painting the\u00a0\u00a0Mini Clipboard<\/a>\u00a0with White Gesso<\/a> and then blended Peacock Feathers<\/a> Distress Ink over the top. I cut a piece of the Melange Tissue Wrap<\/a> and blended the same ink on the ‘wrong’ side, \u00a0I then covered the whole board with\u00a0Multi Medium Matte Glue <\/a>\u00a0and adhered it in place before splattering with Dylusions White Linen<\/a>, Black Marble<\/a> and Vibrant Turquoise<\/a> ink. For the flap I cut a piece of \u00a0paper from a Lost and Found Paper Pack<\/a> and inked to match the base. I decorated the flap with Wildflowers<\/a> and Botanical Remnant Rubs<\/a>, I love how this turned out and think these would make great gifts!<\/p>\n

Macarena<\/a> flies free and used\u00a0\u00a0Paintables \u00a0Watercolor paper<\/a>\u00a0which has a watercolor resist pattern.<\/p>\n

My project is so far away from my comfort zone!\u00a0But… I love to trying new things and crossing the border of my zone.\u00a0There is a lot of splashing, colors mixed together, layers of colors, lol! \u00a0The whole piece is done on the\u00a0Paintables Watercolor paper<\/a>\u00a0from the Salvage District collection. Great thick paper which works with mixed medias perfectly. First I inked it with some\u00a0Distress Inks<\/a>, sprayed with water to get some irregular coloring and drops of water left. After that I put some white and black marks with two different sizes of jar taps. The marks were made with\u00a0Dylusions Paints<\/a>. Then I add some\u00a0Distress Crayons<\/a>\u00a0into the circles and a\u00a0White Sharpie<\/a>\u00a0touches. Lastly I sprayed the background with\u00a0Dylusions Sprays<\/a>. \u00a0For my focal point which is a\u00a0giant butterfly<\/a>\u00a0I used only one color of Dylusions Spray to make a contrast with the colorful background. The same with\u00a0letters<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Sometimes, my imagination runs away with me, and when I saw these Graphic 45 Voyage Beneath the Sea<\/a> papers, that is exactly what happened. Of course, I had to add some stamped images too, and the Graphic 45 set 3<\/a> matching the papers was at the top of my list, as well as Tim Holtz’s Nautical Blueprint<\/a> stamps. \u00a0I created some details using Seth Apter’s Pocket Watch die<\/a> with Prima Rust Pastes<\/a>, and added a touch of glitter and bling with the lovely 28 Lilac Lane Party On<\/a> set. I think it’s time to read some Jules Verne again!<\/p>\n

Meihsia<\/a>\u00a0was inspired to use patterned papers on her mixed media canvas.
\n\"Meihsia<\/a><\/p>\n

Patterned papers are so fun and easy to use when creating mixed media projects. On this mixed media canvas, I pasted Tim Holtz Paper Stash<\/a>\u00a0patterned paper and colored the edges with Distress Paints<\/a>. The butterflies were cut out from the same paper stash. I added some Prima Flowers <\/a>and die cut<\/a> a sentiment SMILE to decorate the canvas.<\/p>\n

Sandra<\/a> rarely\u00a0 uses pattern papers, but love the Sea Breeze paper pack<\/a>

\nI had my eye on the Sea Breeze paper pack<\/a> for months now. So when it was finally released, I had to have it, and it’s perfect for this challenge. I had a hard time choosing my favorite sheets, because they’re all so pretty. The Wildflowers<\/a> dies are amazing and I distress them with Pitch Black Paint Dabber<\/a>, Distress Embossing Powder Black Soot and Opal Magic Alchemy Paint Blue-Gold<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Zoey<\/a>\u00a0decided to make an ATC only using Tim Holtz patterned paper<\/a>!<\/p>\n

For this challange I decided to use only patterned paper – ok ok except for the stickers!! I used pieces of paper from the Tim Holtz Idea-Ology Paper Stash Collage Mini<\/a>\u00a0and I also used the same patterned paper to die cut some pieces from dies by Tim Holtz and Sizzix.
\nTo add some interest to the otherwise “plain” background I used as always gesso and distress crayons!<\/p>\n
