We have an extra special guest joining us this week! Please give a huge welcome to the one and only Heidi Crowl, owner of Simon Says Stamp<\/a>. Heidi was with her family on vacation in Gozo, staying with Lols, and she made this fabulous Art Journal page to commemorate her visit.<\/p>\n

I’m really excited that Lols invited me to join in this week’s challenge. \u00a0How perfect is it that my family and I are here in Gozo visiting Lols for the first time during this challenge!? Coming here was the first stamp on my daughter’s passport and just the second passport stamp for my son. Lols graciously shared her supplies with me so I could create this art journal page: Tim Holtz: Souvenir Adornments<\/a>, Crazy Cats <\/a>Stamps & Dies, Mixed Media 3 dies<\/a> (probably my favorite die set EVER!) \u00a0The brick wall reminds me of all the limestone buildings you see around Gozo, Mini stencil set 5<\/a>\u00a0(such a GREAT must have stencil set!), Wildflowers stamps<\/a>\u00a0(which remind me of Lols gorgeous garden), Halftone and rings stamps<\/a>\u00a0(to add texture to the sea)\u00a0Botanical <\/a>Rub ons, Graph and Croc<\/a> stamps (to add texture to the limestone walk), chit chat stickers<\/a>, various distress inks<\/a>, blending tools<\/a>, Ranger Art Journal<\/a>, Ranger Texture paste<\/a>, and Art Impressions Cat Lady <\/a>stamps (Seriously! \u00a0So perfect for a lady with 7 cats- Lols!) Thanks again to Lols for including me and for being a friend that we consider family!<\/p>\n

Alison\u00a0<\/a>made a clever combined travel journal and wallet.<\/p>\n

I loved this theme, and was inspired to create a travel journal and wallet for documents. I used cardboard packaging and Tim Holtz papers from the Dapper<\/a> and Correspondence<\/a> stashes. \u00a0The cover has plenty of Idea-ology metal embellishments – Muse Tokens<\/a> and Compass Coins<\/a> and so on, and the Globe<\/a> and Adventure Words<\/a> Thinlits have been altered with Frantage Embossing Enamel<\/a> and Distress Paints. \u00a0Inside there are aged journalling pages, already “sketched” on with Tim’s Cityscapes<\/a> stamps, as well as loads of Expedition ephemera<\/a> and Found Relatives<\/a> snapshots collected en route by my rather glamorous world traveller. \u00a0But if you want to see inside you’re going to have to hop over to Words and Pictures I’m afraid!<\/p>\n

Andrea<\/a> made a set of cards to pay homage to her beloved London.<\/p>\n

I lived in London for about a year and a half and that time period remains a highlight of my life!\u00a0 Though that was several years ago, I made a set of cards to pay tribute to some of the things that I saw everyday that I still miss.\u00a0 I started off with these great file cards that I cut with my Sizzix Big Shot<\/a> and Penny Black’s Tabs and Toggles die set<\/a>.\u00a0 I painted them with acrylic paint<\/a> and then added some of my favorite stamps to the backgrounds such as Bo Bunny’s Stitches<\/a>, Tim Holtz’s Documented<\/a> and Dina Wakley’s Textures<\/a>.<\/p>\n

While thinking about the topic, I came up on this large photo, and thought I’d write down some of my thoughts about Johannesburg. I created a city at the top of the layout with Natalie Kalbach’s fun\u00a0Urban Scribble<\/a> set. The buildings were coloured with Brusho crystals,<\/a> and I added some more stamping to the background. The title of the layout was die cut from gold metallic kraft-core cardstock<\/a>, using two different alphabet dies by Tim Holtz, Wanted <\/a>and Alphabet Typo Lower<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Barbara<\/a> likes to dream to travel \u00a0around the world!<\/p>\n

It would be really nice to go around the world! I have chosen for this challenge a Flip frame<\/a>, it’s the first time that I used it!! \u00a0Tim Holtz\/Sizzix \u00a0Globe <\/a>\u00a0is certainly one of the dies I love most and couldn’t really miss it!\u00a0\u00a0I have used as the basis for my project \u00a0SUBSTRATE SHEETS Paperie\u00a0<\/a> in white color, \u00a0I crumpled and painted it \u00a0with Distress inks pad<\/a> and Distress Crayons<\/a>. Under my globe to make a nice contrast I used Textile surfaces paperie<\/a> \u00a0in blue color! I like the effect of the two colors together! To complete my panel a lots of Idea-ology products <\/a>and a Tim’s stamp from “Dapper”set<\/a>!<\/p>\n

Cathie<\/a>\u00a0decided to go with a masculine design and color palette for her World Traveler mixed media panel.<\/p>\n

I used Tim Holtz Travel Ways<\/a> and \u00a0Paris to London<\/a> stamp sets to create my World Traveler panel. I decided to try a masculine design and colors stepping out of my comfort zone. I liked how the\u00a0Gathered Twigs<\/a> and Rusty Hinge<\/a>\u00a0Distress inks paired together and was pleased with the outcome. I created my background using stamped tissue paper with Tim Holtz Plain Tissue Paper<\/a> and the Ledger Script<\/a> stamp set. I then stenciled\u00a0Dot Fade<\/a> and Burlap<\/a> layering stencils along with some other stamps on the background for dimension.<\/p>\n

Cheiron<\/a> made a card encouraging a friend to follow her dream of traveling across the world for a new opportunity.<\/p>\n

To make my card this week, I started out with a piece of manila cardstock and embossed it with the Tim Holtz\u00a0Arrows texture fade<\/a>. I colored the folder using Distress Stains in\u00a0Cracked Pistachio<\/a>,\u00a0Picked Raspberry<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Shaded Lilac<\/a>. Then I added some\u00a0Picket Fence Distress Paint<\/a>\u00a0with a splatter brush. I cut the clouds from corrugated\u00a0Textured Surfaces<\/a>\u00a0paper and the plane from mirrored card stock using the\u00a0Mini Airplane and Clouds<\/a>\u00a0die.
\n<\/a><\/p>\n

This week’s World Traveler theme is definitely one of my favourites and I had so much fun creating this 3D cube with a freestanding globe. I began by making the cube and after adding a coat of gesso to prime the surface, I painted the cube with Black Soot Distress Paint<\/a> before dry brushing the edges with Tarnished Brass Distress Paint<\/a> to create a worn look. I added stamped images around the sides of the cube using Tim Holtz’s Cityscapes Stamp set<\/a>\u00a0and coloured each of them with Distress Marker Pens. The Globe<\/a> is die cut from Manila card stock and then coloured using Peeled Paint<\/a> and Crushed Olive Distress Spray Stains<\/a> and mounted onto foil cardstock <\/a>inked with Alcohol Ink before being attached to the cube.<\/p>\n

Kath<\/a>\u00a0had great fun making a “Travel” page for her Art Journal<\/p>\n

I used 4 pages for this project. I painted around the edges of the outer 2 pages with Black Gesso<\/a> and inked the Darkroom Door Scratches Texture Stamp<\/a> with Versamark Ink<\/a>, sprinkled with Ranger White Embossing Powder<\/a> and heat to set. I then covered the inner pages with Postale Tissue Wrap<\/a> using Distress Collage Medium Matte<\/a>\u00a0as my adhesive. I applied Fossilized Amber<\/a> and Cracked Pistachio<\/a> Distress Paints using a baby wipe to create a wash effect. I stamped images from Simon Says Stamp (Darkroom Door) Enjoy The Journey<\/a> with Black Archival Ink<\/a> and repeated the white embossing with the Texture Stamp on the background, applied Correspondence Tissue Tape<\/a>, Special Delivery Remnant Rubs<\/a>, an Adage Ticket and Expediton Ephemera<\/a>. I created shadows around the tissue tape and ephemera using Walnut Stain<\/a> and Black Soot<\/a> Distress Markers. I used Ranger White Texture Paste<\/a> and Decoart\/Andy Skinner Industrial Elements Stencil<\/a> to create the wording and once it was dry, I created shadows using the Black Soot Distress Marker. I painted the edges of the inner pages with Black Gesso and used a Signo Uniball White Pen<\/a> to highlight the edges, the globes and some of the Remnant Rubs.<\/p>\n

You definitely need passports for any world travel so Lols <\/a>made passport holders for Jax and Abby, Heidi’s children.<\/p>\n

Having Heidi and her family here in Gozo has been a dream come true and while Heidi was creating her journal pages I thought I would make these cute little passport holders! Jax chose teal and Abby chose blue, so that was the starting point. I used Grunge Paper<\/a>, inked and stamped with Peacock Feathers<\/a> and Blueprint Sketch<\/a> Distress Inks and then stamped with Mixed Media 2<\/a>\u00a0and Drawn Hearts<\/a>\u00a0background stamps.\u00a0I stitched the edges, folding approx 1 inch flaps on the inside to hold the passports. I used a Tim Holtz Tag<\/a> to make a travel tag, some air mail washi tape and tickets<\/a>, a die cut plane and some Linen Ribbon<\/a> to finish. Safe Travels Jax and Abby, I am going to miss you and your Mummy and Daddy xx<\/p>\n

I’ve been planning to make a world map canvas for some time and this theme was just perfect so I did it :-) First I\u00a0took my son’s school atlas and draw the map with a watercolor pencil, filled it with Distress Inks<\/a> mixed with water and\u00a0splashed the background with colorful Dylusions Sprays<\/a>. Then I started to stamp <\/a>and make circle marks randomly. The best part was to use Rub Ons<\/a> and give the final touch with Prima Rub On Foil<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Paris is on Maura’s<\/a> mind.<\/p>\n

\"WorldTraveler\"<\/a><\/p>\n

I had a lovely trip to France last year with my sister, and our grand finale was staying at an apartment in Paris so we could explore the city. So, the first place I thought of for this week’s theme was Paris. I began with Tim Holtz Distress Paints in Spun Sugar<\/a>, Cracked Pistachio<\/a>, Salty Ocean<\/a> and Dusty Concord<\/a>. I loved trying out Tim Holtz’s collage mediums <\/a>and applying them with his cute little brushes<\/a>. The Eiffel Towers sketch stamp<\/a> by Tim makes a great focal image for my canvas, and highlights one of my favorite sights.<\/p>\n

Meihsia<\/a>\u00a0created\u00a0a mixed media traveling tag and she is ready for her adventure tour.

I am looking forward to our family vacation this summer, and I created a mixed media tag for this week’s challenge. The tag was embossed with Tim Holtz Gear Set Embossing Folder<\/a>\u00a0and colored with Distress Ink Pads<\/a>. I decorated the tag with die cut antique car<\/a> and punched butterfly<\/a>. The metal Word Band<\/a> and Small Talk stickers<\/a> were adhered for the sentiment on this piece.<\/p>\n

Sandra<\/a> was in the mood for some grungy distress colors<\/p>\n

I would love to travel the world if I could. With summer holiday here, it’s traveling time. So I made a traveling tag with grungy vintage distress colors like Peeled Paint<\/a>, Walnut Stain<\/a>, Forest Moss<\/a>, Broken China<\/a> and Ground Espresso<\/a>. I’m more of a city explorer, so I used the Townscape<\/a> die.<\/p>\n

I used a bunch of distress crayons<\/a> to create the background of my art journal page – I also used pieces of tissue wrap paper<\/a> and the mini stencil<\/a> by Tim Holtz. The Globe thinlits<\/a> was a perfect add for the page theme and so was this Flashcard<\/a> as title! I love travelling and I love making memories!<\/p>\n
