From stitching up a monstrous creation to making a sweet little trick or treat sign, embracing my dark side for some steampunk with edge to simply making something with a lot of black and grey &#8211; this week let\u2019s embrace the spooky.<\/p>\n<p>As soon as spooky was mentioned <a href=\"http:\/\/craftaddicts-tracyevans.blogspot.com\/2013\/10\/spooky-umbrella-man.html\" target=\"_blank\">Tracy<\/a> knew she had to indulge in a little Halloween fun.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/www.simonsaysstampblog.com\/mondaychallenge\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2013\/09\/spooky_Tracy.jpg\" width=\"600\" height=\"669\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>I have a collection building up at the side of my desk of new products yet to be used, old products not used for a while and a few gifts from generous blogging friends, so for this challenge I decided to use a mix of all these elements. I wanted to use the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.simonsaysstamp.com\/servlet\/the-60052\/Tim-Holtz-Idea-dsh-ology-hotlS\/Detail\" target=\"_blank\">Tim Holtz Laboratorie Paper Stash<\/a>, I have not used the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.simonsaysstamp.com\/servlet\/the-30166\/PRE-dsh-ORDER-Tim-Holtz-Sizzix\/Detail\" target=\"_blank\">Umbrella Man Die<\/a> for such a long time and also wanted to incorporate that in some way in my spooky piece. I also had a board leftover from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.simonsaysstamp.com\/servlet\/the-36636\/filmstrip-frames-film-strip\/Detail\" target=\"_blank\">Wendy Vecchi&#8217;s Art Parts Film Strip Frame<\/a> and this made the perfect base for my design.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Halloween is one of <a href=\"http:\/\/candycreates.blogspot.com\/2013\/10\/spoooooooky.html\" target=\"_blank\">Candy&#8217;s<\/a> favorite holidays for creating vintage home decor pieces. Check out her new &#8220;Spooky&#8221; frame!<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/www.simonsaysstampblog.com\/mondaychallenge\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2013\/10\/spooky_cc.jpg\" width=\"600\" height=\"556\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>Halloween has always been one of my favorite holidays. Being a little &#8220;vintage&#8221; myself, I prefer the decorations of my childhood; the predominantly orange and black cardboard witch faces, jointed skeletons, humped back black cats and creepy spiders. Tim Holtz Halloween die cuts <a href=\"http:\/\/www.simonsaysstamp.com\/servlet\/the-47086\/cemetary-cemetery-Tim-Holtz\/Detail\" target=\"_blank\">Headstone<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.simonsaysstamp.com\/servlet\/the-35539\/657456-candlelight-fright-candle\/Detail\" target=\"_blank\">Candlelight Fright<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.simonsaysstamp.com\/servlet\/the-26298\/tim-holtz-alterations-sizzix\/Detail\" target=\"_blank\">The Bewitching Hour<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.simonsaysstamp.com\/servlet\/the-26299\/tim-holtz-alterations-sizzix\/Detail\" target=\"_blank\">Raven and Scaredy Cat<\/a> provide the perfect <a href=\"http:\/\/www.simonsaysstamp.com\/servlet\/the-12623\/tim-holtz-ideaology-idea-dsh-ology\/Detail\">Grungeboard<\/a> cut images to use on my spooky frame. Color washed in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.simonsaysstamp.com\/servlet\/the-29505\/2010-NEW-Tim-Holtz\/Detail\" target=\"_blank\">Sunset Orange<\/a> and Dylusions <a href=\"http:\/\/www.simonsaysstamp.com\/servlet\/the-42486\/DYC33837-BLACK-MARBLE-RANGER\/Detail\" target=\"_blank\">Black Marble<\/a> Ink Spray and accented with Ranger&#8217;s new <a href=\"http:\/\/www.simonsaysstamp.com\/servlet\/the-59174\/SGG38467-MERCURY-GLASS-SILVER\/Detail\" target=\"_blank\">Mercury Glass Stickles<\/a>, this frame really has a vintage feel. Check out the whimsical addition of my freaky umbrella (that can be removed) created from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.simonsaysstamp.com\/servlet\/the-52561\/Tim-Holtz-Sizzix-Die\/Detail\" target=\"_blank\">Tim Holtz&#8217; Picture Wheel<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.simonsaysstamp.com\/servlet\/the-52647\/Tim-Holtz-Sizzix-Die\/Detail\" target=\"_blank\">Tapered Fringe<\/a> die cuts!<\/em><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/purplemailbox.blogspot.com\/2013\/10\/chalking-it-up-to-first-trimester.html\" target=\"_blank\">Ashli<\/a> took her inspiration in the way of color and contrast this week!<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/www.simonsaysstampblog.com\/mondaychallenge\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2013\/10\/spooky_ashli.jpg\" width=\"590\" height=\"588\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>I have recently indulged in many of the trendy chalkboard products. But, you know what? I am finding them a bit challenging to use. I think it is the heavy nature of the black colors. I&#8217;m not exactly sure. But what I do know is that this is a challenge blog after all, so I am challenging myself to use all things chalky and black for this week&#8217;s theme. To begin with, I selected a fun striped paper from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.simonsaysstamp.com\/servlet\/the-61071\/12-12%22-x-366213\/Detail\" target=\"_blank\">Polka Dot Party<\/a>. I then gathered some of my <a href=\"http:\/\/www.simonsaysstamp.com\/servlet\/the-59126\/CS1019-CHALK-STUDIO-BLACK\/Detail\" target=\"_blank\">My Mind&#8217;s Eye Chalk Studio<\/a> goodies and set about layering them all together. The layered chalk labels provided the perfect journaling spot for my <a href=\"http:\/\/www.simonsaysstamp.com\/servlet\/the-26233\/broad-uni-ball-pen\/Detail\" target=\"_blank\">White Signo Pen<\/a>. I certainly needed lots of journaling space for my notes on the first tri-mester! While using these darker products was initially a challenge for me, I am pleased to say that I love the end result!<\/em><\/p>\n<p>This week <a href=\"http:\/\/michellezerull.blogspot.com\/2013\/10\/spooky.html\" target=\"_blank\">Michelle<\/a> constructed paper puzzle blocks.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/www.simonsaysstampblog.com\/mondaychallenge\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2013\/10\/spooky_michelle.jpg\" width=\"600\" height=\"846\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>For centuries, puzzle blocks have delighted children of all ages. When arranged properly, a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.simonsaysstamp.com\/servlet\/the-60488\/Glitz-Whatnots-Die-dsh-Cuts-raven\/Detail\" target=\"_blank\">Whatnot Owl <\/a>eerily appears from these paper toys. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.simonsaysstamp.com\/servlet\/the-46731\/cms138-apothecary-happy-halloween\/Detail\" target=\"_blank\">Apothecary<\/a> text and a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.simonsaysstamp.com\/servlet\/the-49749\/00793-BRONZER-BRONZE-METALLIC\/Detail\" target=\"_blank\">Bronzer<\/a> spray keep everything equally spooky.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/layersofink.blogspot.com\/2013\/10\/a-spooky-night-shadow-box.html\" target=\"_blank\">Anna-Karin<\/a> made a very spooky shadow box where scary items and creatures are hiding in the dark corners.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/2.bp.blogspot.com\/-v71idbGTA-s\/Uk-3vrJ86bI\/AAAAAAAALrk\/5vfdOmJthgI\/s1600\/A+spooky+night.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter\" style=\"border: 0 currentColor;\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/2.bp.blogspot.com\/-v71idbGTA-s\/Uk-3vrJ86bI\/AAAAAAAALrk\/5vfdOmJthgI\/s1600\/A+spooky+night.jpg\" width=\"600\" height=\"670\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><em>I had a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.simonsaysstamp.com\/servlet\/the-28900\/square-boxes-Tim-holtz\/Detail\" target=\"_blank\">Tim Holtz Configurations shadow box<\/a> waiting to be decorated and thought it was the perfect base for a spooky project. There are lots of little details hiding here and there, ready to be discovered. I used <a href=\"http:\/\/www.simonsaysstamp.com\/servlet\/the-32390\/Ranger-Inkssentials-8-x\/Detail\" target=\"_blank\">shrink plastic <\/a>to shrink some <a href=\"http:\/\/www.simonsaysstamp.com\/servlet\/the-59030\/cms171-poisonous-halloween-skeleton\/Detail\" target=\"_blank\">stamps <\/a>and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.simonsaysstamp.com\/servlet\/the-32390\/Ranger-Inkssentials-8-x\/Detail\" target=\"_blank\">die cuts <\/a>so that they would fit into the compartments. The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.simonsaysstamp.com\/servlet\/the-58875\/659374-RETRO-HALLOWEEN-FALL\/Detail\" target=\"_blank\">Retro Halloween <\/a>stamps and dies are so much fun and I was also very happy with the finish of the different<a href=\"http:\/\/www.simonsaysstamp.com\/servlet\/the-30455\/ideaology-PRE-dsh-ORDER-Tim-Holtz\/Detail\" target=\"_blank\"> glass<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.simonsaysstamp.com\/servlet\/the-58876\/658715-APOTHECARY-BOTTLES-HALLOWEEN\/Detail\" target=\"_blank\">shrink plastic <\/a>and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.simonsaysstamp.com\/servlet\/the-58883\/658722-MINI-APOTHECARY-BOTTLES\/Detail\" target=\"_blank\">grungeboard bottles<\/a>. Do you dare to peek into those dark corners?<\/em><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/cupcakescreations.blogspot.com\/2013\/10\/serenity.html\" target=\"_blank\">Mona<\/a> was inspired by the black and grey color combination.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/www.simonsaysstampblog.com\/mondaychallenge\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2013\/10\/spooky_mona.jpg\" width=\"600\" height=\"812\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>The beautiful scene in the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.simonsaysstamp.com\/servlet\/the-26924\/Artistic-Outpost-SERENITY-Unmounted\/Detail\" target=\"_blank\">Serenity<\/a> stamp set was calling to me to create a page in my art journal. To create the page, I combined a variety of mediums such as <a href=\"http:\/\/www.simonsaysstamp.com\/servlet\/the-33967\/AIP31468-JET-BLACK-Ranger\/Detail\" target=\"_blank\">jet black ink<\/a>,<a href=\"http:\/\/www.simonsaysstamp.com\/servlet\/the-49750\/00794-BLACK-VELVET-DARK\/Detail\" target=\"_blank\"> Black Velvet Color Shine<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.simonsaysstamp.com\/servlet\/the-49745\/00792-TINSEL-SILVER-SILVERY\/Detail\" target=\"_blank\">Tinsel Color Shine<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.simonsaysstamp.com\/servlet\/the-55651\/Paper-Artsy-GRUNGE-PASTE\/Detail\" target=\"_blank\">Grunge Paste<\/a> as well as lots of layers made using <a href=\"http:\/\/www.simonsaysstamp.com\/servlet\/the-52715\/ideaology-th93068-cha-winter\/Detail\" target=\"_blank\">Tissue Tape<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.simonsaysstamp.com\/servlet\/the-52713\/french-industrial-shabby-chic\/Detail\" target=\"_blank\">patterned paper<\/a>.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/suzzstampingspot.blogspot.com\/2013\/10\/trick-or-treat.html\" target=\"_blank\">Suzz <\/a> decided to create a vintage cute tag for her spooky project.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-547\" alt=\"OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA\" src=\"http:\/\/www.simonsaysstampblog.com\/mondaychallenge\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2013\/10\/suzz.jpg\" width=\"600\" height=\"600\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.simonsaysstampblog.com\/mondaychallenge\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2013\/10\/suzz.jpg 600w, https:\/\/www.simonsaysstampblog.com\/mondaychallenge\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2013\/10\/suzz-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.simonsaysstampblog.com\/mondaychallenge\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2013\/10\/suzz-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.simonsaysstampblog.com\/mondaychallenge\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2013\/10\/suzz-52x52.jpg 52w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>I have been seeing so many beautiful holiday decorations (yes already on display) with a beautiful tarnished brass with a metallic blue colors. Although they aren&#8217;t traditional Halloween colors I thought they worked for my sweet vintage witch from the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.simonsaysstamp.com\/servlet\/the-26919\/Artistic-Outpost-VINTAGE-HALLOWEEN\/Detail\" target=\"_blank\">Artistic Outpost Vintage Halloween<\/a> plate. I also played around with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.simonsaysstamp.com\/servlet\/the-20742\/ranger-industries-ink-altered\/Detail\" target=\"_blank\">beeswax<\/a> in the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.simonsaysstamp.com\/servlet\/the-20745\/SUZ14706--ranger-ink\/Detail\" target=\"_blank\">Melt Pot<\/a> for a different texture along with a touch of gold using <a href=\"http:\/\/www.simonsaysstamp.com\/servlet\/the-53310\/Wendy-Vecchi-Embossing-Paste\/Detail\" target=\"_blank\">Wendy Vecchi&#8217;s Gold Embossing Paste<\/a>.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/meihsia.blogspot.com\/2013\/10\/boo.html\" target=\"_blank\">Meihsia<\/a> was inspired to make a haunted birdhouse for this Halloween.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/farm4.staticflickr.com\/3808\/10104501845_f08f246539_z.jpg\" width=\"600\" height=\"500\" \/><br \/>\n<em>I love to alter birdhouses so this week I decided to make a spooky birdhouse to display in my craft room for Halloween. After painting the background with<a href=\"http:\/\/www.simonsaysstamp.com\/servlet\/the-51257\/HSP31833-BLACK-GESSO-PRIMER\/Detail\" target=\"_blank\"> black<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.simonsaysstamp.com\/servlet\/the-11394\/ranger-adirondack-acrylic-paint\/Detail\" target=\"_blank\">orange acrylic paints<\/a>, I attached all the Halloween elements such as a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.simonsaysstamp.com\/servlet\/the-35710\/PRE-dsh-ORDER-Tim-Holtz-Idea-dsh-ology\/Detail\" target=\"_blank\">spider, bat, skull<\/a>, spider web, branch and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.simonsaysstamp.com\/servlet\/the-27428\/EK-Success-PUMPKINS-Slim\/Detail\" target=\"_blank\">pumpkin<\/a> on this birdhouse. It is so fun to see this finished haunted birdhouse in the night time and my kids think it is really spooky.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/dan99.blogspot.com\/2013\/10\/tip-toe-tip-toe-boo.html\" target=\"_blank\">Dan<\/a> took the opportunity to practice a little hat-making on his spooky tag.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/sites.google.com\/site\/dan99crafter\/photo-album\/sssSpookyCombo.jpg\"><img alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/sites.google.com\/site\/dan99crafter\/photo-album\/sssSpookyCombo.jpg\" width=\"600\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><em>Halloween isn&#8217;t as big of a &#8220;thing&#8221; here in the UK as it is in the USA but I have many happy trick-or-treating memories from my Chicago childhood that I channeled into this tag. I was determined to make a tag this week (not that I ever need a lot of persuading) because now that I have a Tim Holtz <a href=\"http:\/\/www.simonsaysstamp.com\/servlet\/the-60123\/Tim-Holtz-Idea-dsh-ology-hotlS\/Detail\" target=\"_blank\">worn cover<\/a> and some <a href=\"http:\/\/www.simonsaysstamp.com\/servlet\/the-60126\/Tim-Holtz-Idea-dsh-ology-hotlS\/Detail\" target=\"_blank\">page pockets<\/a> I can feel a tagstravaganza coming on! Tim&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.simonsaysstamp.com\/servlet\/the-60052\/Tim-Holtz-Idea-dsh-ology-hotlS\/Detail\" target=\"_blank\">Laboratorie paper stash<\/a> was an obvious starting point, the distressed black and white designs lend themselves so well to a Halloween theme. Among the stamps I used were Tim&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.simonsaysstamp.com\/servlet\/the-47436\/Tim-Holtz-Rubber-Stamp\/Detail\" target=\"_blank\">skull<\/a> and the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.simonsaysstamp.com\/servlet\/the-11294\/stampers-anonymous-tim-holtz\/Detail\" target=\"_blank\">Spills and Splatters<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.simonsaysstamp.com\/servlet\/the-25853\/unmounted-summer-2010-Tim\/Detail\" target=\"_blank\">Mini Halloween<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.simonsaysstamp.com\/servlet\/the-25856\/2010-Tim-Holtz-Cling\/Detail\" target=\"_blank\">Odds and Ends<\/a> sets.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/snappingmonsters.blogspot.com\/2013\/10\/all-things-crafty-halloween-treats.html\" target=\"_blank\">Andrea<\/a> wanted to use her powers of spook to make some ghoulishly delicious Halloween party treats.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/www.simonsaysstampblog.com\/mondaychallenge\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2013\/10\/spooky_andrea.jpg\" width=\"600\" height=\"600\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>Bless my genius chef of a mother, but my skills just don&#8217;t reach the kitchen realm. You know that show about being the worst cook in America? Yep. My family encouraged me to apply. Even so, I still have the desire to be involved in seasonal treat-giving. My solution is simple: instead of cooking or baking treats, I rely on the decorations of the treats to earn me brownie points (no pun intended). With eye-catching Halloween collections like <a href=\"http:\/\/www.simonsaysstamp.com\/servlet\/the-57769\/4500692-STEAMPUNK-SPELLS-2013\/Detail\" target=\"_blank\">Graphic 45&#8217;s &#8220;Steampunk Spells&#8221;<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.simonsaysstamp.com\/servlet\/the-46534\/THR010-THRILLING-HALLOWEEN-2013\/Detail\" target=\"_blank\">Authentique&#8217;s &#8220;Thrilling,&#8221;<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.simonsaysstamp.com\/servlet\/the-25856\/2010-Tim-Holtz-Cling\/Detail\" target=\"_blank\">Tim Holtz&#8217;s Odds and Ends stamp set<\/a>, it&#8217;s easy to feel like Martha even if you don&#8217;t know how to turn the oven on<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>I (<a href=\"http:\/\/mayflaum.com\/?p=12730\" target=\"_blank\">May<\/a>) am seriously spooked by how close\u00a0Christmas is!<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-548\" alt=\"spooky\" src=\"http:\/\/www.simonsaysstampblog.com\/mondaychallenge\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2013\/10\/spooky-600x524.jpg\" width=\"600\" height=\"524\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.simonsaysstampblog.com\/mondaychallenge\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2013\/10\/spooky-600x524.jpg 600w, https:\/\/www.simonsaysstampblog.com\/mondaychallenge\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2013\/10\/spooky-300x262.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.simonsaysstampblog.com\/mondaychallenge\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2013\/10\/spooky.jpg 1000w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I really can&#8217;t believe November is around the corner, and Christmas just\u00a0behind that. It&#8217;s spooky, I tell you!\u00a0So I called on my stash of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.simonsaysstamp.com\/servlet\/the-Ranger-Tim-Holtz-Distress-Paints\/Categories\" target=\"_blank\">Tim Holtz paints<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.simonsaysstamp.com\/servlet\/the-44936\/Tim-Holtz-Core%27dinations-DISTRESS\/Detail\" target=\"_blank\">cardstock<\/a>, and other goodies to get cracking!
