RECYCLE\/UPCYCLE STYLE<\/span><\/h2>\n

With the throw away society that we live in we thought we should take a look through our ‘rubbish’ and use something that we would normally put in the bin!<\/p>\n

I used Dina Wakley Ranger White Gesso\u00a0<\/a>\u00a0to alter these really old teeny playing card and then I used Ranger Dylusions Ink Spra<\/a>y to \u00a0add color. I also used Tim Holtz Layering Stencil bubble<\/a>\u00a0and Prima Marketing Light Modeling paste<\/a> to add texture! I also used this adorable die from Crate Paper<\/a>\u00a0and Tim Holtz Cling Rubber Stamp Correspondence<\/a>\u00a0to add some details.!<\/p>\n

Cathie<\/a>\u00a0decorated some old salt and pepper pots and gave them a new lease of life.<\/p>\n

I recycled an old salt and pepper shaker, empty cereal boxes and left over imitation flowers from a previous project. I love to paint glass with Distress Paint<\/a>\u00a0and see what happens when using different techniques. Tim Holtz Tiny Tattered Florals<\/a> and Tattered Florals\u00a0Bigz Flowers<\/a> are two of my go to dies for mixed media projects. Cutting the large florals out of empty cereal boxes are the perfect material because the petals will not only hold their shape but the edges of the petals won’t tear.<\/p>\n

Macarena<\/a>\u00a0has recycled a small tin of sardines<\/p>\n

Some time ago I thought it would be funny to alter a small tin of sardines.\u00a0To be honest, it’s one of the smallest projects I’ve ever done, the thing has only 5×10 cm and it’s really cute. I felt like Alice in the Wonderland working on it. I played with Distress Inks<\/a>, Crackle paste<\/a> and embellished it with Idea-ology Pen Nib.<\/a><\/p>\n

Andrea<\/a> rescued some black and white book pages from the recycling bin.<\/p>\n

Coloring books are all the rage right now and I can see why: coloring is soothing!\u00a0 When I saw a fabulous retro sewing book headed for parents’ recycling bin, I decided to use it as my own coloring book.\u00a0 Instead of crayons, I used watercolors<\/a> and Distress Inks<\/a> for my coloring tools and gave it some more oomph with Tim Holtz’s Splotches<\/a> and Latticework<\/a> stencils and some sayings from his Big Chat sticker book<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Anna-Karin<\/a> has been planning to upcycle a piece of packaging for years.<\/p>\n

I like the packaging of Tim Holtz Sprocket Gears<\/a>, and have used parts of it before, but I have had plans for a long time to use a whole piece and that is what I did here. The circles were stamped with various small stamps<\/a>. Behind the packaging there is an inked and stamped manila tag and I also used some of the actual Sprocket Gears, a Monocle<\/a> and a Word Band<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Barbara<\/a>\u00a0recycles everything possible from \u00a0the product packaging!<\/p>\n

For me it’s impossible to throw away the products packaging, I save \u00a0everything that \u00a0it’s possible! For today’s challenge I recycled \u00a0stiff cardboards that I find in the Burlap panel packs<\/a>. I got \u00a0these cardboards in 3 different tones and I thought to use them to \u00a0create the background for three tags. I’ve \u00a0mixed these shades \u00a0with the 3 colors of Core’dinations Kraft core metallic<\/a> \u00a0and they work very well together! Mixed media die<\/a> and Found relatives<\/a> are the perfect finishing for my project!<\/p>\n

Cheiron <\/a>used an empty paper towel roll to stamp on her gelli plate to create the white circular shapes printed on her tag.<\/p>\n

I love playing around with any new tool for mark making. I have stamped with a paper tube before, but when you stamp and print using your gelli plate<\/a>, you get an entirely different look. I stamped with picket fence distress paint and printed onto my tag. Once the paint was dry, I layered over it with Distress inks and the Tim Holtz Plus layering stencil<\/a> and Wildflower<\/a> stamps. The sentiment is from the new Tim Holtz Ponderings<\/a> set.<\/p>\n

Emma<\/a>\u00a0is welcoming the thought of Spring just around the corner!<\/p>\n

When it comes to recycling, there is one thing that we have plenty of and that’s, cardboard! So with this in mind, I decided to create my own ornamental vintage cotton spool, using chipboard packaging and a cardboard tube. Once I’d made my basic spool shape, I painted it with various Distress Paints to obtain the look of wood and then wrapped it in a piece of striped paper from the Dapper Paper Stash<\/a>. For the decorations I added some beautiful die cut Detailed Butterflies<\/a>, made from black card and vellum<\/a> and added these together with some tiny punched flowers<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Lols<\/a>\u00a0collects jars for when she makes marmalade and turned one into a candleholder for a change.<\/p>\n

I have lots of jam jars so when the recycle challenge came up I knew I had plenty that I could use. I tore a strip of \u00a0tissue wrap<\/a>\u00a0and inked the edges with gathered twigs distress ink<\/a> before adhering to the jar with multi medium matte glue<\/a>. I then inked a die cut heart parade with tarnished brass distress paint<\/a> and adhered this over the top. I wrapped some twine<\/a> around the rim and added a brass tinted rose<\/a> and a few gold sequins<\/a> for extra glamour. Perfect for a romantic dinner setting don’t you think!<\/p>\n

\"Recycle\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Everyone in my house orders stuff online and most of it gets delivered in boxes. We do recycle them, but sometimes it is a lot more fun to use them creatively, like I did as a little girl. I really like the wonderful texture in my ATC (artist trading card) from the corrugated cardboard. Layers of paint add more texture from heavy body acrylics like the Dina Wakley paints<\/a> and metallics<\/a>. More metal is always a good thing in my book, and the Tim Holtz Typed Tokens<\/a> and Arrows<\/a> add depth to my piece.<\/p>\n

Meihsia<\/a> was inspired to create a mixed media tag with some kid’s toy packaging.<\/p>\n

I had so much fun using the materials from the recycle bin to decorate the tag this week. I stamped the sketch image with Tim Holtz Pen and Pencil Stamp<\/a> on the clear plastic toy box, cut it and pasted it on the tag using Tombow Glue<\/a>. The gear was die cut<\/a> using the cardboard from the same toy packaging and then colored with Distress Paint<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\nIn crafting you can use anything as long as it fits on your project. I throw out way too much, and challenges like these make me realize to hold on to all that I can use in my projects. Like this packaging of a stamp set. I used it as a base for my card. After coloring the background with various Distress Inks,<\/a> I played around with the Latticework Stencil<\/a> along with\u00a0Crackle Paste<\/a> I mixed Black Soot<\/a> into.<\/p>\n
