It\u2019s a new year, and our first challenge of 2015! This is so very exciting and we\u2019d like to kick things off celebrating both old and new. Will you use an old favorite and pair it with a new supply? Try an old technique with a new stamp? However you feature old (or new) \u2013 we can\u2019t wait to kick off this crafty year with you!<\/p>\n

Mona<\/a> embellished an altered shadow box with a variety of fantastic new and old die cuts.<\/p>\n

I recently purchased the beautiful Tim Holtz Layered Butterfly die<\/a> and have been waiting to put it to good use. Rather than using the coordinating texture fade to add texture to the die cut butterfly, I applied crackled texture paste<\/a>, allowed to dry then applied brushed pewter Distress Paint<\/a> and seedless preserves Distress Stain<\/a>.<\/em><\/p>\n

Anna-Karin<\/a> made a journal page about new places, and old things.<\/p>\n

Since we recently moved, the new part of the challenge was easy for me to pick, and this is also the first page in a new Dylusions art journal<\/a>. I used a bunch of older favourite stamps <\/a>by Tim Holtz and an old dictionary book paper for the background. The page was painted with Distress <\/a>Paints and I used paint<\/a> to add colour to the stamped images.<\/em><\/p>\n

Michelle<\/a> loves mixing old and new supplies together.<\/p>\n

I love mixing new supplies with my favorite older ones. This quirky little Bird stamp by Hero Arts <\/a>came out last year. He mixes well with the brushstroke trend in the new Love Notes paper by We R Memory Keepers<\/a>. The font complements the Sentiment in Avery Elle’s Look Up set<\/a>.<\/em><\/p>\n

Andrea<\/a> turned classic images of butterflies into a new form of art with her butterfly bracelet.<\/p>\n

We all have those go-to shapes that we love year after year, and I love butterflies! I collected several butterfly punches, including Martha Stewart’s Classic Butterfly punch<\/a> and Tim Holtz’s Butterflight<\/a>, and stamps like Impression Obsession’s Butterflies<\/a> to make my bracelet.<\/em><\/p>\n

Emma<\/a> chose to alter the cover of an old book to create a journal for the new year.<\/p>\n

Just before Christmas, I came across an old unloved and unused notebook with a cover that was begging to be altered and because I never want to throw anything out that I think might be useful, I decided to use it for this challenge. So, after a good coat of gesso<\/a>, I layered various colours of Distress Paint<\/a> and Tissue Tape<\/a> over the cover before adding a collage of Ephemera pieces<\/a> and Idea-Ology<\/a> to create my “brand new” 2015 journal.<\/em><\/p>\n

Ashli<\/a> decided to put an old favorite to use in a new way…<\/p>\n

I was inspired to put an old favorite stamp to use in a new way this week! Using my Gelatos<\/a>, I stamped my image and then cut out each little spot to use as an embellishment. Once I had all of those adhered, I finished things off with some Amy Tangerine paper<\/a> and some Maggie Holmes Chipboard<\/a>. I just love this fresh take on an old favorite!<\/em><\/p>\n

Meihsia<\/a> decorated her art journal page using some beautiful new and old dies this week.<\/p>\n

I really love the beautiful new Simon Says Stamp Delicate Thistle Craft Die<\/a> so I decide to use it to decorate an art journal page with my favorite Simon Says Stamp Mini Hearts Set<\/a>. After I sprayed Distress Spray Stain<\/a> on a piece of Heavy Weight Cardstock<\/a>, I die cut those flowers and hearts embellishments with the sprayed paper, then pasted the embellishments using Tombo Glue<\/a> on the background of my journal page.<\/em><\/p>\n

It’s time for Sandra Mouwen’s<\/a> birthday party<\/p>\n

Well almost, but it was time to make some invitations! A new year means I ‘m getting a year older within two weeks… I started with some old techniques, like the masking technique using my new friend the Ring Frame<\/a> from Simon Says Stamp. Love the chalkboard look with Pitch Black<\/a> and Simon Says Stamp White Pigment Ink<\/a> in combination with Heidi Swapp Party Stamps<\/a>.<\/em><\/p>\n

I (May<\/a>) challenged myself to play with things left on my desk.<\/p>\n

An old favorite trick of mine is to clean up my desk by taking things I find and creating a project with them instead of putting them away. The results are always unique and I love how this large tag<\/a> came together with long time favorite chit-chat stickers<\/a>, and new to me ephemera pack<\/a>.<\/em><\/p>\n

Suzz<\/a> will be back on Wednesday to share how old is new again with her inky supplies.<\/p>\n
