That got me thinking &#8211; how about making some project element from scratch? It could be an embellishment with layers, a rosette, a flower, or perhaps you build something or otherwise craft a piece by starting with little more than simple paper or other raw materials. What will you make from scratch?<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/stickydots.blogspot.com\/2014\/07\/heroes-from-scratch-simon-says-stamp.html\" target=\"_blank\">Emma&#8217;s<\/a> shadowbox and tarnished trophy is a celebration of heroes ~ past and present.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/www.simonsaysstampblog.com\/mondaychallenge\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2014\/06\/emma_scratch.jpg\" width=\"600\" height=\"491\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>I love creating pieces from scratch and this was the perfect challenge for me to make two individual pieces but both with one meaning. I created the box itself from chipboard, topped it with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.simonsaysstamp.com\/product.aspx?id=123394&amp;c=0\" target=\"_blank\">Sizzix Star Cluster<\/a> and then, after adding some texture using <a href=\"http:\/\/www.simonsaysstamp.com\/product.aspx?id=109623&amp;c=0\" target=\"_blank\">Wendy Vecchi&#8217;s Embossing Paste<\/a>, I painted the box with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.simonsaysstamp.com\/product.aspx?id=111520&amp;c=0\" target=\"_blank\">Distress Paint<\/a>. I used stamps and Idea-Ology to fill the inside of my box and then made a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.simonsaysstamp.com\/product.aspx?id=133404&amp;c=0\" target=\"_blank\">Tarnished Trophy<\/a> from chipboard, covered with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.simonsaysstamp.com\/product.aspx?id=73696&amp;c=0\" target=\"_blank\">metal tape foil<\/a>, as the perfect accompaniment for a No.1 hero.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Hand crafted flowers were the inspiration for <a href=\"http:\/\/purplemailbox.blogspot.com\/2014\/07\/a-vision-of-flowers.html\" target=\"_blank\">Ashli<\/a> this week&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/www.simonsaysstampblog.com\/mondaychallenge\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2014\/06\/Ashli-Oliver-soapHOUSEmama-Simon-Says-Stamp-Monday-Challenge-From-Scratch-1.jpg\" width=\"599\" height=\"603\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>I love the look of flowers on a page, but often have trouble using them. For this week&#8217;s challenge, I decided to pull some inspiration from last week&#8217;s white on white theme to handcraft some subtle flowers of my own. Using plenty of my <a href=\"http:\/\/www.simonsaysstamp.com\/search.aspx?Keywords=fiskars\" target=\"_blank\">favorite punches<\/a>, the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.simonsaysstamp.com\/product.aspx?id=68915&amp;c=0\" target=\"_blank\">Martha Stewart Vine Trim<\/a>, and the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.simonsaysstamp.com\/product.aspx?id=131936&amp;c=0\" target=\"_blank\">Clustered Leaves Die from Simon<\/a>, my flowers came together in no time!<\/em><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/dan99.blogspot.com\/2014\/07\/all-this-scratching-is-making-me-itch.html\" target=\"_blank\">Dan<\/a> usually makes 5&#215;5 cards using pre-scored cards and envelopes, this time he made his card from scratch.<\/p>\n<p><img alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/sites.google.com\/site\/dan99crafter\/photo-album\/sssScratch1.jpg\" width=\"600\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>I had a lot of fun making this card and got to use 2 recent purchases, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.simonsaysstamp.com\/product.aspx?id=133139&amp;c=0\" target=\"_blank\">Random Quotes<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.simonsaysstamp.com\/product.aspx?id=112016&amp;c=0\" target=\"_blank\">Artful Tools<\/a>. I love the photo of the cute vintage couple in the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.simonsaysstamp.com\/product.aspx?id=101842&amp;c=0\" target=\"_blank\">Custom Fastener<\/a> too and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.simonsaysstamp.com\/product.aspx?id=125682&amp;c=0\" target=\"_blank\">Hero Arts winter trees<\/a> is another new stamp that I using for the first time today.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/cupcakescreations.blogspot.com\/2014\/07\/thank-you.html\" target=\"_blank\">Mona<\/a> was inspired to create a homemade flower to embellish her tag.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/www.simonsaysstampblog.com\/mondaychallenge\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2014\/06\/mona_scratch.jpg\" width=\"600\" height=\"821\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>I enjoy making my own die cut flowers especially roses made using the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.simonsaysstamp.com\/product.aspx?id=80887\">Tattered Pinecone<\/a> die. I didn&#8217;t stop there, I also decorated the tag with a homemade <a href=\"http:\/\/www.simonsaysstamp.com\/product.aspx?id=71287\" target=\"_blank\">butterfly<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.simonsaysstamp.com\/product.aspx?id=71283\" target=\"_blank\">heart<\/a> embellishment.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/snappingmonsters.blogspot.com\/2014\/07\/my-cards-and-tags-matchbook-notes.html\" target=\"_blank\">Andrea<\/a> made a trio of matchbook notes from scratch using some of her favorite paper.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/www.simonsaysstampblog.com\/mondaychallenge\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2014\/06\/andrea_scratch.jpg\" width=\"600\" height=\"600\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>One of the most versatile die sets I own is <a href=\"http:\/\/www.simonsaysstamp.com\/product.aspx?id=99062&amp;c=0\" target=\"_blank\">Lifestyle Crafts&#8217; matchbook die set<\/a>. I love to make cute little notes that flip open. For these matchbooks, I used the following fabulous paper collections: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.simonsaysstamp.com\/product.aspx?id=195104&amp;c=0\" target=\"_blank\">Wallflower<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.simonsaysstamp.com\/product.aspx?id=298279&amp;c=0\" target=\"_blank\">Madame Payraud<\/a>, and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.simonsaysstamp.com\/product.aspx?id=133935&amp;c=0\" target=\"_blank\">Maritime<\/a>.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/layersofink.blogspot.com\/2014\/07\/seaside-canvas-mixed-media-tutorial.html\" target=\"_blank\">Anna-Karin<\/a> loves to make things from scratch, and made a summer canvas.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/images-blogger-opensocial.googleusercontent.com\/gadgets\/proxy?url=http%3A%2F%2F2.bp.blogspot.com%2F-ytUSv0q5uo8%2FU6RMqCrIPOI%2FAAAAAAAAPV8%2F6V1dlqwotO8%2Fs1600%2FSeaside%2BCanvas%2B-%2BAnna-Karin.jpg&amp;container=blogger&amp;gadget=a&amp;rewriteMime=image%2F*\" width=\"600\" height=\"458\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>One of my favourite things to do is to use dies in ways they were not originally intended for and ever since I set eyes on Tim Holtz Sizzix <a href=\"http:\/\/www.simonsaysstamp.com\/product.aspx?id=133310&amp;c=0\" target=\"_blank\">Matchbox <\/a>die, I knew I wanted to use it to make little houses. I even used the die to make the roofs. The background was done by smearing Wendy Vecchi <a href=\"http:\/\/www.simonsaysstamp.com\/product.aspx?id=133740&amp;c=0\" target=\"_blank\">Crackled <\/a>and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.simonsaysstamp.com\/product.aspx?id=109623&amp;c=0\" target=\"_blank\">White Embossing Paste <\/a>on a canvas board, adding paint and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.simonsaysstamp.com\/product.aspx?id=92289&amp;c=0\" target=\"_blank\">stamping <\/a>once it was dry.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/craftaddicts-tracyevans.blogspot.com\/2014\/07\/everlasting-flowers.html\" target=\"_blank\">Tracy<\/a> created her own garden in a bottle for this weeks challenge.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/www.simonsaysstampblog.com\/mondaychallenge\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2014\/06\/tracy_scratch.jpg\" width=\"600\" height=\"768\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>My raw materials were an old bottle, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.simonsaysstamp.com\/product.aspx?id=101856&amp;c=0\" target=\"_blank\">Tissue Wrap<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.simonsaysstamp.com\/product.aspx?id=133740&amp;c=0\" target=\"_blank\">Wendy Vecchi&#8217;s Crackled Texture Paste<\/a>,<a href=\"http:\/\/www.simonsaysstamp.com\/product.aspx?id=113257&amp;c=0\" target=\"_blank\"> Gold Embossing Paste,<\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.simonsaysstamp.com\/product.aspx?id=77884&amp;c=0\" target=\"_blank\">Monarch Orange Archival Ink<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.simonsaysstamp.com\/product.aspx?id=123862&amp;c=0\" target=\"_blank\">Potting Soil Re-inker<\/a> and a good dose of inspiration! As I look through my craft window it is raining at the time of writing this so what could be better than my own everlasting flowers and vase and no watering needed.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/suzzstampingspot.blogspot.com\/2014\/07\/we-people.html\">Suzz <\/a> is feeling patriotic with the 4th of July celebrations this past week.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/www.simonsaysstampblog.com\/mondaychallenge\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2014\/06\/suzz_scratch.jpg\" width=\"600\" height=\"1241\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>I was feeling patriotic and wanted to create something to celebrate. The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.simonsaysstamp.com\/product.aspx?id=124715&amp;c=0\">stars stencil<\/a> along with the Ranger Distress Ink <a href=\"http:\/\/www.simonsaysstamp.com\/product.aspx?id=32914&amp;c=0\">Fired Brick<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.simonsaysstamp.com\/product.aspx?id=55096&amp;c=0\">Chipped Sapphire<\/a> seemed like a good place to start. I also wanted to try create patriotic bunting from ribbon. After I started with my bunting I decided a rosette would be perfect on the top of my tag.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/madebysannie.blogspot.com\/2014\/07\/big-bold-doily-flower-card.html\" target=\"_blank\">Sandra Mouwen<\/a> is very much into doily&#8217;s at the moment<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/dev.smouwen.nl\/blog\/include\/images\/blog_images\/%23SSSDT\/2014\/IMG_3931a.jpg\" width=\"600\" height=\"583\" \/><br \/>\n<em>My doily happiness continues. I can&#8217;t help myself, so why not embrace it and make a big bold doiley flower from scratch. In the back is the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.simonsaysstamp.com\/product.aspx?id=115093&amp;c=0\" target=\"_blank\">Documented for the Record<\/a> doily, with on top <a href=\"http:\/\/www.simonsaysstamp.com\/product.aspx?id=123920\" target=\"_blank\">Doily 1<\/a> stamped on a transparency. The last doily is the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.simonsaysstamp.com\/product.aspx?id=115083\" target=\"_blank\">Note to Self<\/a>. On the side I used some <a href=\"http:\/\/www.simonsaysstamp.com\/servlet\/the-41057\/Darice-Craft-Designer-NATURAL\/Detail\" target=\"_blank\">Jute twine<\/a> to make a bow, so on the inside I can add some more pages.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/meihsia.blogspot.com\/2014\/07\/mixed-media-canvas-documented-everyday.html\" target=\"_blank\">Meihsia<\/a> was inspired to make some handmade flowers to decorate her mixed media canvas.<\/p>\n<p><img alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/farm4.staticflickr.com\/3846\/14168475508_800cce4cbe_o.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>It&#8217;s always great to use up the scraps so this week, I gathered my leftover scraps with various colors and patterns to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.simonsaysstamp.com\/product.aspx?id=110160&amp;c=0\" target=\"_blank\">die cut<\/a> and make these handmade flowers. The background of this canvas was covered with Gesso and colored with Izink inks and watercolors. Armed with my <a href=\"http:\/\/www.simonsaysstamp.com\/product.aspx?id=129726&#038;c=0\" target=\"_blank\">Penny Black stamp<\/a> and the water color pencils I don&#8217;t use nearly enough I played with color techniques and came up with the first Christmas card of the year. Ahead of the game? Perhaps, but when it comes to the holiday crafting I can&#8217;t get started early enough!
