Thank You Card Idea

Hi readers! Happy Wednesday! We’d like you to join us in extending a BIG Simon welcome to another first time guest designer on our blog this week! Annette Witherspoon is local to our office headquarters, and it was a real pleasure to get to meet her in person at our Simon Says Stamp CREATE event this year! Read on for tips and tricks on how you can recreate this beauty!

Enjoy!

Hi there! I am honored to be guest designing for Simon Says Stamp. This opportunity is a little extra special to me because Simon Says Stamp is a local business. I live just a couple miles down the road, which means I’m not only supporting a reputable company in the crafting industry, but I’m also supporting a local business!

Today, I’m making a holiday-themed thank you card. I figure most people already have started on their Holiday cards, but what if you receive a nice gift and you want to send out a special thank you to the person who gave it to you?  This card is perfect for such an occasion!

Here is a video I created showing how I made the card. (Forgive my raspy voice. I’m coming down with a cold and my voice sounds kind of kooky right now! LOL!)

Watch the video:

First, I took a circle die and drew around it onto Canson 140 lb. watercolor paper. You don’t have to use a die. Any circular object that fits just inside an A2 card front will work. This is to simply serve as a guide for positioning your stamps.

Next, I started stamping my images around the circle using Versafine Black Onyx ink. The stamps are from the Altenew Striped Florals set. Once I’m done stamping, I color the images with Zig Clean Color Real Brush markers. To fill in some of the white space, I used a metallic gold gel pen and simply drew some little dots. Once the ink has had time to dry, I erased my pencil line.

I finished off the card front with a die cut Thanks sentiment from Altenew, and adhered it to the middle of the card at a slight angle for a little more visual interest.

Finally, I attach the card front to the base of the card, which is an A2-sized tent fold created from Neenah Solar White 110 lb. card stock.

I hope you enjoyed this post. Have a great holiday season!!

  1. DELIGHTFUL card Annette!!!
LOVE your stamping and colouring, the shading adds lifelike dimension to the petals and leaves, LOVE your shimmering sentiment too!!! The Zig Clean Color markers are already on my wishlist, added the glorious golden foil to my list to try now => THANK YOU for sharing :)

  2. Love the tips you shared while coloring-I never thought to use the Zigs without water! You blended them so beautifully!

  3. Awesome colors and such a pretty flower stamp! LOVE that BIG shiny, slick thanks. So very nicely done! Thanks for sharing with us!

  4. Annette, This is so beautiful! I have wondered about the Zig markers. Your demonstration really makes these look doable. You are one lucky lady to live in the Simon Says neighborhood. Thank you and you did an amazing job.

  5. Annette, You did a very nice job of making this video for us. Thank you. I love my Zig Clean Color Real Brush Markers, but have either used them for “straight-on” coloring small areas, or with a paint brush and pot of water. I was intrigued to watch you color with them, and am wondering if cross-contamination of colors occurs when using them this way? I was also curious as to why you used watercolor paper, when no water was involved? As you can tell, I am just learning, and “soaking up” new ways to use these markers. I will be watching your video again to catch all the little details. Thanks again, and I hope you are feeling better.

    1. Hi Linda! I’m glad you liked the video. I have not had any problems with cross contamination when blending with the markers. In fact, I’ve seen a video (can’t remember who – Sandy Allnock maybe?) where the artist did the tip-to-tip technique.

I chose the watercolor paper because I wanted to make sure my card didn’t warp or bleed. I haven’t tried it with regular cardstock. If you give it a go, let me know. I’m curious to see if it works! Thanks again!
