One Stamp Five Ways: Spring Gnomes

Hi friends! It’s the last day of the month, and THAT means that it’s time for another One Stamp Five Ways feature with the fabulous Suzy Plantamura bringing us lots of inspiration! Read on to learn more and enjoy!

Today I have a “one stamp, five ways” post to share with you using the Spring Gnomes set from the last release called Lucky To Know You. I haven’t been much into the gnome craze until I made these cards and now I love them. They are so cute and versatile. I just want them to have eyes and they would be even better, but at least they are mysterious this way haha. Above is a photo of the five cards I’ve made with this set.

I cut a piece of Ranger Watercolor Paper to be the size of a card front and I painted it with Nuvo Shimmer Powders in Solar Flare, Green Parade, Atlantis Burst, and Falling Leaves. These powders are so fun to use for really intense backgrounds! I die-cut the SSS Birch Tree Wafer Die from the top center. I also die-cut one from white cardstock. I attached the watercolored piece to a white card base and added the inside pieces from the white cardstock one inside the painted one.

I embossed the sentiment on the bottom of the card with white embossing powder. I stamped the two gnomes and the heart with black ink on white cardstock. I colored them in with Copic Markers and added some shading with colored pencils. I fussy cut them out as I didn’t have the dies and I attached them to the front of the card. I also attached the little heart and added some sequins from the SSS Caribbean Sunset mix.

I stamped the three gnomes and open heart on a piece of card size Ranger Watercolor Paper with MFT Natural Ink. I painted the entire piece with watercolor pencils. I don’t usually use them, but I really enjoyed how easy they were to work with. I just applied the color to the edges and outsides of each area and then use a wet paintbrush to move the color around.

I embossed the sentiment from the stamp set with Sunflower embossing powder on the top of the card. I added three yellow sequins from the same Caribbean sequin mix around the sentiment. I attached this piece to a yellow cardstock card base.

I always like to do what I call a “random stamping” background. I stamped all of the gnomes and outline heart on a white cardstock card front with MFT Natural Ink. I turned the stamps every which way so they fit like a puzzle (using a Misti makes this technique so much easier). I colored all of the images in with colored pencils. I used a light grey colored pencil to add drop shadows behind each image.

I stamped the sentiment from the stamp set on a Sentiment Label Die using white embossing powder. I used a bright pink cardstock for both the greeting banner and the card base. I added some more of the Caribbean Sequin Mix and some Sparkling Clear Sequins around the sentiment banner.

I used a die I can’t find anymore, but it was by Simon Says Stamp and is very similar to the Birch Tree Collage die. I die-cut that from the center of a white cardstock card front. I then painted a piece of watercolor paper with Green Parade Shimmer Powder. I attached the card front over this piece. I attached the white cardstock piece to the front of a Lawn Fawn Guava cardstock card base (I mention this as it is my favorite color of cardstock!).

I stamped the gnome with MFT Natural Ink on white cardstock and colored it with colored pencils. I cut around the image and attached it to the front of the card. I embossed the “thanks” and the solid heart inside the design with white embossing powder. I added some sequins from the Caribbean Sequin Mix.

This is my slim-line card and is my favorite of the five I made. These are NOT the colors I usually gravitate toward, but I just love how they look with the gnomes. I cut a piece of white cardstock to be 3.5” wide x 8.5” long. I stamped the gnomes and some of the open hearts on it with MFT Natural Ink. I colored them in with Copic Markers (which I don’t often use anymore, but maybe I will start using them more!). I resisted the urge to add more shading with colored pencils.

I used the Warm Grey Copic Markers to create a ground underneath them. I embossed the sentiment on a cardstock strip die-cut using the SSS Sentiment Label dies. I used SSS Antique Gold embossing powder. I added an Espresso Jewel by Pretty Pink Posh to the right of the sentiment.

I cut this piece down by ¼” on both sides. I then attached it to a piece of burnt orange cardstock using the new Pink Fresh slim-line card die called Slim Diagonal Stitched Rectangle dies. I love these new dies, but they are a bit bigger than the traditional slim-line card size, so this piece slightly overlapped my card base. By cutting down the card front, it fit perfectly over this piece which framed it. I think it was the perfect finishing touch for this card.

I thought it would be a challenge to think of 5 ways to use this stamp set since it is small and only has gnome images. But I had no problem making these five cards and I actually had 2 more ready to go on my desk (but I stopped myself). I love getting this much done with one 4×6 stamp set and since it includes so  many sentiments, I was able to use just greetings from the stamp set on my 5 cards.

Have a great day friends and thanks so much for visiting the SSS blog today! Suzy

  1. An absolute delight to look at these beautiful and adorable cards. These gnomes are all just darling! (And to think I used to hate gnomes! lol).

  2. What a great bunch of creativity Suzy! Love those gnomes and these could not be cuter… thanks for sharing.

  3. These cards are just adorable, and I really like the use of the die cuts from the card fronts.

  4. Love these cards. Be glad when life is ack to normal. The set I ordered is sitting in Ohio until Patience always pays off. Stay safe and well

  5. Lovely cards but my FAVORITE feature is that die that creates a vignette surrounded by leaves. Is that the one that’s no longer available? Because it is GORGEOUS and I totally need it.

  6. Gorgeous cards Suzy, those gnomes are all so cute!
Great to see how you made five cards with one stamp set and just like you set with all similar images, I can see you had a lot of fun.
