Hello everyone, welcome back to a new Studio Monday video! Since I have been enjoying working with florals lately, I thought it would be a perfect time to feature Hero Art’s Marianne’s Flowers stamp set! This set has some really gorgeous floral illustrations in it, and I paired this with Hero Arts’ new Thank You Messages set.

No line watercolor is a fun technique that can be done with any medium, including markers and colored pencils. I will be using Zig Clean Color markers today as my medium of choice.

When doing no line watercolor, you need to use a very light ink for your stamping so that the coloring does not show the outlines of the stamped image. The ink I like to use for no line coloring is Simon’s Barely Beige ink. This was designed especially for no line coloring. And because Simon’s inks are both alcohol ink friendly and waterproof, the ink can be used with any medium!

In the video, I will be walking you through how I created the variation in color and shading with my Zig markers. The technique is really easy and creates such beautiful, realistic results. I used just a few colors for each card, which I have listed for you here:

Rose: Geranium Red 029, Pink 025, May Green 047, Olive Green 043

Lily: Yellow 050, Bright Yellow 052, Pink Flamingo 222, Pale Green 045, Emerald Green 048, Brown 060

The sutble patterns on the card bases are created with Hero Arts stencils and dye inks. For the lily I used the Rain Dance stencil with Sunshine ink. The rose has a background created with the Crossing Waves stencil and Cosmic Berry ink. Because I used inks that were close in color to the card bases, it created a pretty tone-on-tone effect. I think it adds just the right amount of interest without being too distracting.

I hope you will be checking out the video to see the techniques used in these cards and that it inspires you to try some no line watercoloring of your own! Thanks so much for stopping by and visiting me today… I will see you again very soon with a brand new Studio Monday video!

  1. Your tutorial and video were a great help to me–from stamping with light ink and masking for halos of color to stenciling the card front. The resulting cards are lovely. Thanks for sharing these! Can’t wait to try it all.

  2. Loved watching you do the no-line watercoloring–another thing I want to try. Thanks for the great video! Lovely!!

  3. Great video! And I so appreciate the additional information you leave in the blog! I cant wait to try no line coloring! You really know how to make cards look extra spectacular!!! Thank you for sharing!!!!

  4. How beautiful! Looking at the cards alone, I thought this was going to be a difficult technique to do, but quickly learned how easy it is! Amazing cards!

  5. You’re coloring is beautiful and you used my favorite color, yellow. I love flowers but because of mutant ninja squirrels we don’t have a lot of flowers in my yard. They keep digging everything up but with flower stamps, they can’t dig anything up and I can have flowers all year long! Thanks for showing us your beautiful cards and for giving us the chance to win something. I love SSS and when I can, I have bought many things from SS. I can’t wait to watch the video!
