Happy New Year!

Happy FIRST day of 2014, everyone! I hope the new year is starting out very well for you all!  I thought it would be fun to have the amazing Debby Hughes as our guest once again to give us some really fun and unique inspiration to kick off the new year!

Enjoy!

Happy New Year everyone! It’s Debby here with a New Year’s look at stretching your supplies. As I was looking through my stamp sets the chevron from Friend Flags reminded me of the symbol for military rank found on the sleeve of service uniforms. It got me thinking of what better time to thank those that serve and are away from their families in the holidays. So I used the chevron to create a military medal on my card. Stamping the chevron below the thanks flag in lipstick red and then navy. I trimmed around this and then used Distress Inks to give a vintage look. I also stamped the star from the set and trimmed it out too. I set the medal on to a panel on which I’d added a little embossing paste love :) Stamped the sentiment in the same direction as the thanks flag and then mounted my panel onto a Khaki card base.

I just wanted to say a little something about the pilot wings and book in the photograph. They belonged to my very charismatic, learned and hugely musically talented Great Uncle. In this photo he’s holding my young Father :)

For my next project I wanted to use one of the dies from the latest Simon Says Stamp release; lots of lovely Valentine’s treats and hearts galore. I used the heart die from Hearts & Spoons to create a little apple. I’ve seen this project in various forms over the years and wanted to give it a go myself. I cut 18 hearts and trimmed away the point of each – this becomes the base of the apple and gives stability. Then I used Distress Inks to color each heart before scoring and gluing the hearts back to back with each other. I rolled a little Dark Chocolate card to form a stem and then added a couple of leaves from the Clustered Leaves die which had been given the same Distress Ink treatment.

Finally I added a tag from Filled With Love and a sentiment from From Us all tied up with a little twine :)

Well that’s me for today. Enjoy the start of the New Year!
