Paula is inspired by the story of Little Red Riding Hood. She used an eye stamp from a Jane Davenport Mix and Match Eyes,Nose and Mouth Stamp Set  and drew the rest of the face and hair as well as the hood. She used a Tim Holz Feather Stencil and Gunmetal Grey Nuvo Mousse to add some texture.

Andrea was inspired by the myth of Icarus and his doomed flight too close to the sun.  She used Carabelle Studio’s Feather and Peacock stamp, some subtle scalloped hexagons in the background from Pink Pink Posh, and Mama Elephant’s Lots of Letters stamps for the sentiment.

Anna-Karin was inspired by the many many stories she has made up for her sons, and created mini watercolor panels to symbolise the different settings the stories take place in. The panels were stamped with sentiment stamps, such as the Tim Holtz Simple Sayings, and with Tiny Text Remnant Rubs.

Barbara has created an Etcetera Tag inspired by  H.P. Lovecraft’s story, Medusa’s coil. She used Idea-ology Collage frames, Tim Holtz Stampers Anonymous Sea life set, Tim Holtz Mosaic stencil, Idea- Founded relatives and Tim Holtz Sizzix Gift card bag die.

Cheiron– inspired by The Cat in the Hat used one of Tim Holtz’s Hipsters to make her fun hipster cat in the hat card along with the matching Hipster Cat die set. She added a hat (with a little extra drawing detail using a micron pen) and bow tie from the Crazy Things stamps and dies.

Emma– inspired by Athena’s Owl in Greek mythology, created a canvas panel using Tim Holtz’s Ornate Owl as a focal point. She framed her wonderful creature with a Baseboard Frame, topped with a Vignette Accent and surrounded it with foliage, die cut using the Garden Greens die set.

Kath– inspired by Lewis Carroll’s Alice In Wonderland created a canvas using Tim Holtz/Sizzix Planks and Teacup BigZ Dies, Funky Floral 1 Thinlits, Idea-ology Botanical Collage Paper, Worn Wallpaper and a Paper Doll

Lols was also inspired by Lewis Carroll’s Alice In Wonderland and made a card with Alice falling and landing in the March Hare’s mad tea party. She used a Visible Image Ahead Of Our Time Stamp Set and used a combination of Paper Artsy Rocky Road and Slime Infusions for the background.

Macarena – inspired by Captain Philips – a true touching story converted into a film with Tom Hanks in a main role. She went into a marine shadow box with lots of layers and blue and teal shades of Lindy’s Stamp Gang Sprays. She gave the names to the tiny boats with Tim Holtz Rubs.

Maura– inspired by stories of the Kraken, worked in her Dina Wakley Journal using Simon Says Stamp’s Under the Sea set and Tim Holtz’s Sea Life stamps, along with Paper Artsy’s Carribean Sea paint and A Bit Jaded Infusions.

Meihsia – inspired by Aesop’s Fable The Owl and the Birds, and created a mixed media tag using Simon Says Stamp Birch Circle Wafer Die on the background and made the texture using Tim Holtz Distress Crackle Paint.

Sandra– inspired by Norse mythology of Huginn and Muninn, the 2 ravens of Odin, created a thinking of you card, using the Feather and Ravens die and Infusions for the background.

Zoey– inspired by King Midas he had the ability to turn everything into gold – created this Gold Tag with Tim Holtz Distress Paint and she decorated it with Tim Holtz Idea Ology Paper dolls and Tim Holtz Idea Ology Quotations metallic stickers

  1. WOW! The array of mixed media mythology/story inspired pieces here are incredible works of art! Gorgeous…and in several cases, spark trips down memory lane of some of my story favourites.

  2. I can’t believe it. I have been working on a project based on a children’s book for the last week. And what to my wondering eyes should appear but a challenge based on a story. I better hurry up before this week slips away. I’m waiting on crackle paint to dry.

Thank you so much for this challenge. I can tell by the incredible design team projects that there will be many more wonderful projects based on this challenge theme. The design team has done a masterful job.
