Stencil & Paste with Meihsia Liu

Hi, friends, Meihsia here today to share a mixed media project on the canvas using a stencil and modeling paste to create the beautiful texture on the background.

I’ve always loved to play with various forms of media and material on my creations. To start this project, I applied Faber-Castell Gesso on the canvas as the base and made the paper collage on the background with Prima Flower paper and Faber-Castell Gel Medium. The Izink Pigment Ink which has been my favorite product lately was dropped and blended with water on the background for a slight sheen.

To create the background texture for the focoal point of this project, I used a pallette knife to apply the Liquitex Modeling Paste Gel Acrylic Medium over the Simon Says Stamp Mosaic Heart Stencil.

After the stenciled heart was dry, it’s time to play with more colors. I dropped the Heidi Swapp Color Shine in mustard color and water mixture using the Drip Dropper, tilted the canvas, and let the mixture run. Repeat this step with two more different shades of Color Shine.

Dry the canvas with a heating tool, then use Faber-Castell Coconut Double Scoop Gelatos and Gesso to soften the color scheme.

To make the stenciled heart pop up, I dabbed Tim Holtz Distress Ink Pad Victorian Velvetusing Clearsnap Colorbox Art Dauber on it. These steps completed the background textures of this canvas.

I then attached the cheese cloth, Prima Flowers, Prima Flowers Washer #2 Sunrise Vintage Trinkets and Prima Flower Ballet Resins on the canvas. The sentiment was stamped with Tim Holtz Cling Rubber Stamps 2013 Simple Syaings and Memento Luxe Ink Pad in Tuxedo Black color.

I hope you enjoyed this tutorial and are inspired to create something beautiful and fun! Happy crafting!
