Magical Mermaid Layout

Hi readers! How’s your weekend treating you? Can you tell I’m daydreaming about the beach again? I am loving this layout by Sharon Laakkonen using new Prima products! There are so many stunning details!

Enjoy!

Come create your own magical vacation layout with sand & water effects, a sparkling custom-colored mermaid, and shimmery golden seashells! I combined a few fabulous products on my summer-filled page, perfectly framing my favorite summer vacation photo of my granddaughter, Amariah!

Prima’s new paper collection, Sea Shore, makes me feel like I’m on a tropical beach! I wanted to add that same beachy texture to the paper. Start by stamping sea shell patterns with gesso right on the paper. Dry. Mix Color Bloom sprays with gesso (go light to dark-Gold Foil, then Antique Gold, then Worn Leather.) Dab the colored gesso on the page with a sponge to create various shades of sand. Dry between each color. Lightly rub Inka Gold over the “sand” and on the paper edges with your finger.

Isn’t this new wooden mermaid by Julie Nutting divine? I started by painting her with Color Bloom Sprays and a paintbrush. (See step 2.) The color will bleed slightly so be extra careful.  Color her hair with the Gold Metallic Chalk Edger, a paintbrush and touch of water. Color the wood seashells and resin clock with Gold Foil spray. Dab the resin lightly with paper towel to let some of the white to show through.

Glue gold sequins on her top, waistline, and flippers for extra sparkle. (We know all mermaids look like that in real life, right?)

Adhere everything to page as shown raising your 5×7 photo off the page slightly with foam squares. Dry brush a touch of gesso on flowers for a shabby chic touch.

Once you have your layout together add touches of Glass Bead Gel across the sand to mimic foamy water. (Cover your photo with scrap paper to protect it.) I applied it with a paintbrush and let it dry overnight. The Glass Bead Gel will sparkle when the light hits it…just like real water!

I will be teaching this page, from start to finish, on Live With Prima, April 29th at 11:00 PT right here! Thanks for letting me hang out with you today! :) Sharon
