Faber Castell and Shari

Hi everyone! It’s Shari here with a fun mixed media card using Faber Castell Gelatos and Glaze!

I used my Gelatos as a water color to fill in the “Life is the Art” stamp image from Tim Holtz. I had a great time creating this card, didn’t really worry about “staying in the lines” and was able to try something new with my Gelatos.

I LOVE the saying and LOVE how everything turned out with the bright colors.

Soooo… you see that strip to the right of my image? It was a total technique experiment that I was able to capture on camera. I used Faber Castell Glaze with a Tangerine Gelato to get started. You can see everything in my video below.

Thanks for hanging out with me today, hope you have a fantastic week-end!

  1. I love how fun this card is, Shari. The sentiment is a great metaphor, too! After all, both art and life can be messy, frustrating and beautiful.

Love the combination of orange and green. It inspires me to match those two colors for one of my cards.

    Thanks for sharing! :)

  2. Your card is fabulous! I’m going to give this card a try. Gelatos are such a great art medium and a lot of fun to play with. Donna Downey did a great series on MyCraftChannel showing Gelato techniques. Thanks for sharing – love it!

  3. What a fun way to start my day by watching your delightful, creative video! That background technique was definitely a total success.

  4. Though I don’t have Gelatos, I do have the stamp set and love it. I’m going to play with some other color mediums and see what results. I have been thinking about purchasing the Gelatos and I loved the results you achieved on your beautiful card.

  5. Fabulous card! Love the sentiment and that it has open areas to add color! I just got some gelatos and have loved playing with them! Thanks for the tips & tricks! Love that’s distressed artsy piece on the side if the card…looks great!

  6. Okay….that was fun Shari!! I loved your experimentation! When you added the black I thought it was a bust there but I was so happy that the water made it all work out! TFS!!

  7. Its alway nice to see someone try something new or for the first time and how they modify the process if thins don’t go exactly as planned and just being in the moment. Thanks for sharing your project.

  8. Love the stamp and colouring in of the stamp. The side of the card looks really cool. And I have to say my 5 year old loves the music to the beginning of the tutorial.

  9. Stunning use of all of the products, Shari. Most people don’t know how beautifully the Stamper’s Big Brush Pens blend. They are truly amazing. Love how you used the Glaze with a brayer to create the background. Really gorgeous! As always, I love everything you create. :)

  10. Hi Shari! I enjoyed seeing the techniques you used with these wonderful products. I have to say I cringed seeing you cut the end of your gelato off, but then, oh what a gorgeous glaze you created! I will be sawing off the ends of my gelatos!

  11. Wow, both the stamped image and the technique results are so pretty!!!! Experimenting and finding something new is such an awesome feeling isn’t it??!!! TFS and great work Shari!

  12. That was so cool watching you try something you never have before! Love the way that panel turned out, Shari! It’s the perfect touch to your fabulous, watercolor sentiment! ♥

  13. I absolutely love the stamp sentiment. A good technique and it turned out so beautiful. Thank you Shari for sharing it with us.

  14. Wow Sherri, you did a great job on this. Thank you for sharing! I love that stamp!!! I think it would be a great piece to put in a frame to see it all the time.
