Art Journal Feature with Shari Carroll

Hey… Happy Friday everyone! It’s Shari here with another entry in my Art Journal. I’ve used the STAMPtember® Art Journal kit to get me started along with a few stamps, inks and a couple exclusive Simon Says Stamp dies.

I LOVE the complimentary IndigoBlu stamp that I got in my kit, these stamps are perfect for journals.  It’s exciting to see which one you will get because every stamp in the kit is different. Below is a shot of the textures created with some of the paints that are included in the kit.

And using a few techniques with the stencil from the kit!

I’ve put together a full process (but sped up) video for you showing how I made it!

Have you ever made your own color spray? It’s pretty easy. I use 1 part paint and 1 part water. I added a BB to the bottle to help mix the solution. If you’re using thick paint, use more water. Be sure to cap the mister off when you’re done using the spray or discard the mixture and clean the mister. A little soaking and running fresh water through the mister will clean out the paint spray.

I’d love to hear if you’ve started journaling and what your favorite techniques are.

Thanks for hanging with me today and have a fantastic week-end!

  1. I love watching you create these pages – I don’t think it is a medium for me, but I love watching videos of your creativity! AMAZING!

  2. OOhh this is GORGEUS Shari :-) I love the colours and whole design :-) I have just ordered the kit and it is currently winging its way across the pond ,,, can’t wait for it to arrive so I can try these techniques :-)
    luv
    Lols x x x

  3. Love it! I haven’t started art journaling yet but I really really wanna!
I’ll tell you the truth when you stamped that flourish vines on the left page at the top and bottom I didn’t like the look of it at all…but once that soft granite from HA did it’s magic….I LOVED it! and I LOVE that LIFE font as well Very lovely page Shari!! TFS

  4. Just love the process watching you create these pages. Finally tried my hand at two so far. Love the black, white and blue together. This came out so good. Thanks.

  5. Your journal is a beautiful thing!!!! I haven’t started yet but I intend to get started soon. Thanks for the video.

  6. I just cannot get enough of watching you create art journal pages! LOVE this one, Shari!

I finally started my art journal and am working on my 4th page now. Thanks to you I am loving every minute of it! One of my fave techniques is using my fingers with a bit of Gesso, to tone down brighter inked (or painted) portions of the page – so cool!

  7. I love my art journal! I got mine in February and it’s awesome! My favourite would just be to make backgrounds.Sometimes I am just so happy with a background that I could just end there! hahaa.

  8. I love the journal. I have to wait till next month to purchase my kit, but I can’t wait to try it. I have some stuff I can practice with, but you know gotta have the whole kit.

  9. Thanks sooo much for an awesome tutorial here. I haven´t got into journaling myself yet, but have been watching a lot of different ideas lately, so guess I´ll have to give it a try soon too he he he. It looks pretty awesome, what I see others are doing.

  10. I love making my own sprays, but have to admit I like to add glitter! But then I like to add glitter to everything!
    Great journal page!

  11. I am almost there ready to start journaling supplies are ready . You have made art journaling for me possible Your kit is amazing. Backgrounds is what interests me the most .

  12. Your pages are beautiful. The word journal in any form makes me cringe but I like to use your sweet ideas for cards. Lol

    1. Hi Vicki!
I create as I go. In my videos, I have no idea where things will lead me until I just “Do it”. As I look back through my pages, once I’ve got my background done, it’s obvious that I like having something go horizontal… either paint, washi tape or words. It’s fun to find your style just by playing.

      Thanks!
      Shari

  13. I have not done journaling yet. It was pure enjoyment to watch you create this though. I appreciated that you showed us the whole process of painting the page. I learned that I need to exercise more freedom with my brush and my fingers!

  14. Wow! Where have you been all my life!! I am a long time stamper and card maker, but relatively new to Art Journaling. I was even at an Art Journaling class at my LSS today. I love the idea of Art Journaling, getting to play, be messy, and express yourself, but find many of the Art Journaling styles out there just too extreme for me. Your simpler style, featuring text, words, and vintage elements (love Tim’s tissue tapes) really speaks more to my sense of style. Thanks for the inspiration, and I’m so excited about the Art Journaling Kit being offered!!

  15. I look forward to Shari’s journal each month. This one seemed like it was so simple, but of course it has multiple layers. Beautiful!

Would you consider putting information about the product she’s using in the video? When she holds up the product, it’s too fast to see what it is. Thanks!

  16. It’s great to watch you create. I have done art journaling. I’m not great at designing. So I need to just bite the bullet and get some layers down and see where it takes me.

  17. Very pretty color combo. TFS.
No I have not started journaling yet.

  18. I have started art journaling, but I LOVE watching how others work in their journals and picking up tips and tricks that I can apply to my own. You are always a pleasure to watch and I learn something new each time. Thanks for sharing!
